Has anyone had eyes on Logan Allen?
He is almost a year older than Anderson Espinoza, but been dominating in a similar fashion since he started in the GCL. I’d be interested to know if he is more advanced than the players in the GCL or if his stuff is overpowering for hitters at that level. I realize he is a HS draftee and age appropriate for the GCL, but his HS seemed more like a baseball academy than a HS, and I know he has experience on HS national teams and such. I’m curious if he is going to be another guy to watch closely next year in terms of potential impact arm (ie Espinoza, Kopech) or if he profiles more like a solid arm (ie Johnson, Buttery).

I predict he'll be ranked higher than Trey Ball by the end of next year. It'll be quite a jump, especially in this system, if he starts out in Lowell. How's his fastball velocity looking? Anyone?

He's only thrown 12 innings, so nothing to draw conclusions on. I do like the draft pick.
He really does look like Lester. If you cropped the same outfit from Lester's ribbon picture onto his picture from the 2nd page, you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

I'm sure he will be ranked higher than Trey Ball with the way he's pitching.

Very polished lefty with pretty long baseball career for his age. Known for his pitchability but improved his stuff a lot this season. Hard worker. His role model is Jon Lester as you expected.

It didn't take long for this to become another thread detailing Trey Ball's struggles....

In an attempt to bring it back to Logan....I just looked at some stats: 57 batters faced, 20 struck out, only 1 extra base hit and only 1 walk.

With the graduation of Travis Shaw, MLB's prospect pipeline just kicked Allen into the 26 spot on the list. Intriguing details including a fastball that has "improved to 90-94 with good life" (his best pitch, grading a 60) and "the potential to have four average-or-better pitches" with "above average feel for pitching." Looks like a kid to keep an eye on in the coming years. m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=bos
