The kids are becoming too good, costing the Sox a protected pick I was thinking the same thing! Don't worry though, the bullpen won't let that happen!

Taz is Jonesin' for that protected pick, I guess. I would have thought he would be more interested in an arbitration raise for himself but never underestimate how willing the Japanese are to subordinate themselves to the team I guess.

Taz walked 5 batter in 2012 in 45IP, he walked 4 this 2/3 inning, he isn't right. Why is he still pitching?

357 inside the park HR's by catchers in ML history. Last one by Damien Miller, 8/18/2. Red Sox: Hal Wagner 7/7/46. That was just before my mother knew I was on the way.

obviously not Owens best start but you got to love that he gave up 2 runs (1 earned) without his best stuff against a good team. The only bright side to the bullpen meltdowns is that front office can't ignore how much this needs to be addressed in the offseason.

If MLB manager is dream job for Torey Luvillo then, he cannot leave out Tazawa too long like that by gave up 4 walks in row. Smartest manager don't do that way. Pull him out early!! Taz was clearly hurt & didn't get right pitches. Grady Little never got second chance as MLB manager right after the RS canned him.

JBJ made at least two plays tonight that would have been iffy, at best, for Hanley. The gap between the two is, in my opinion, much larger than the metrics can capture.

This is a crazy end of the season! On one hand we want to be bad enough to get a top 10 protected pick while developing young talent. On the other hand, we are 7.5 games out of the WC which is closer than what Tampa Bay was in Sept of 2011. I love the fight in this young core, but I still want that protected pick!

If the goal/hope is David Price, the protected part of the pick really doesn't matter all that much, as I can't see them then additionally signing another guy with a QO attached. Higher draft pick, more pool $, better chance at a better draft. But with arguably the top two pitchers available unable to get the QO (Price/Cueto), I don't think it's as big a deal as it's been in the past. I think the goal is to get one of those two guys
Even with that, it's far more important that the young core shows that they can buoy a team. Unless of course they refuse to sign a top end FA purely because it costs them their 1st pick, which I just don't think they'll do based on everything DD has said so far in regards to getting a #1

I think one of Betts or Bradley is gone next year. They are both showing the capabilities of being above average CF and I sadly believe one will be used to bring in a frontline stater.

If Bradley could be packaged for S Miller or Gray then I am all for it! I rather not mess with this OF defense and use ML depth to make a play for a frontline starter. Price might be expensive, but as pointed out earlier, wont cost a first round pick. If Atl would give up Miller for Margot, Miley/buch with added money and guerra or something similar to this, then we bolster this staff quickly. This OF defense and potential offense is something we should keep in tact if possible!

I like Carrasco and I think he should cost less than whatever Gray would cost. I trust that DD could get Atl to trade Miller, who is young and cost controlled for a deal that works for us. I love Bradley, but seeing that he went to U. SC near ATl and him being the type of player that Atl typically coverts, I can see a package being put together. Hopefully Kelly has raised his stock too and can be put in the mix for young pitching that we need. I need to look whats out there, but this bullpen needs a complete overhaul too!
