I hate the steal attempt, but yet another example of MLB umps being worse at their jobs than anyone else in the world.
Please imprison them all.

Off topic fantasy league selfishness, does Bogaerts not get credit for a SB if the lead runner is caught on a double steal? I should've had 2 steals on one play. FM(fantasy)L.
ADD: "Google is my friend" - fielders choice, no credit. 2 stolen bases stolen from me, sonuva..... I'm with WCP, prison time.

Don't know if he swung or not but to not appeal that as the home plate ump is ludicrous.

Congrats to porcello, he threw a very nice game tonight.
The offense was a bit overwhelmed, but we had our chances.
Again I like this current team, they are very entertaining.

Umpires are on the Yankees side.

He should have stayed on the bag he was out of control. Mookie still makes mistakes running the bases sometimes. Shaws error costed them as well. And That home run was just a foot away from being foul. The red sox batters also bailed out pineda early they should have taken more pitches, the guy felt comfortable getting behind in counts it seemed.

Umpires are on the Yankees side. Absolutely no doubt in my mind. MLB wants the Yankees in the playoffs. Their pitchers and hitters get almost every close call.

Even if Mookie slid a fraction of an inch off the bag I think that's such a ridiculous call to make. Clearly not the spirit of the rule, and if he was off by that much it's because the third baseman's glove was pushing him away from the base, intentionally or not.

I don't feel nearly the degree of rage and despair that usually torments me after a loss to the MFY. I'm obsessed with seeing them lose out on the division to the Jays to force them to play the one-gamer. I felt like Toronto was already a heavy favorite and the wonderful news on Teixeira that broke today is probably the clincher.
(The Jays just walked the Tribe off on a Ryan Goins jack. Joy to the World!!)
Also, while I enjoy the progress our young guys are making, I also see great benefits in getting, let's say, a pick in the 7 to 9 range as opposed to one in the low double digits. We probably wouldn't have gotten Andrew Benintendi if we had drafted just a few spots lower this year.

Clearly not the spirit of the rule, and if he was off by that much it's because the third baseman's glove was pushing him away from the base, intentionally or not. I thought his foot was off the bag and the umpire was in the perfect spot to see that. OTOH I agree that the glove likely pushed the foot off. Also (couldn't tell this for sure on the replay) the fielder's arm reaching across the bag to make that tag may have prevented Mookie's hand from getting back to it.

Whether Mookie should have been called out or not... there's just no reason to try and steal there when you're down by two runs. If you're down by one run I understand.

If the play had been successful, the Red Sox would have had two men in scoring position with one out. The odds of scoring at least one run or two runs was greatly increased. Given how hard it is to score against Betances and Miller, and how much he beat the throw by, it was a perfectly defensible decision. I have watched the replay over and over and I can't tell whether (a) Betts remained on the bag or (b) he was pushed, and neither could the umpire who originally made the call.

On the replays, what I focused on was his left hand, that and what I could see of the foot sliding along the edge of the bag. My impression was that, the only time his foot might have been off the bag, his left hand was on it. That's something the third base umpire could easily miss if he was focused on his right foot. And remember he only gets to see it once.
The camera evidence doesn't include a view of that side of the bag. In lieu of that evidence, the New York crew reviewing the play - and remember they have the same camera angles as we do - probably deferred to the umpire who made the call. That's what they do when there's not enough evidence, that's the way the guidelines were written.
