Holt is still 2.4 war player even though he struggles of late. I don't think he is an every day player. But he might be one of the best utility guys.

73 wRC+ in the second half even with a .321 BABIP. I think including him in a trade package would still be a decent idea. I also think Zobrist could be a bargain signing because of his age, while he's still a very productive utility guy. Could help mitigate risk of JBJ/Castillo/Panda/Hanley busting next year. Zobrist is a good idea (if it's 2 years) - that's smart out of the box thinking, trade Holt, sign Zobrist Why do you think Zobrist would take 2 years and a bench spot?

But he will be 35, maybe 2/20 or 3/25? I would think it wouldn't be difficult to find 400 PA for him next year even as the team now stands

Why do you think Zobrist would take 2 years and a bench spot? He wouldn't, dude's not thinking it straight. I suppose it's hard to remain realistic when we're trading Holt for Chris Sale!!!!! (Holt has more value as an utility player than he would have in a trade, people need to get over it)

Not that it's all that important, but JBJ just passed Mookie in BA. Who would have bet on that a month ago?

I would think it wouldn't be difficult to find 400 PA for him next year even as the team now stands He just had 4 straight 5+ fWAR seasons and is hitting even better than he did the last few. If a team doesn't think his bad defensive year is more than just an anomoly and outlier, he's probably getting over $80 million. Beltran got $45 million as a 37 year old without anywhere close to Zobrist's recent track record.

JBJ is 25 with a cannon arm (and a career 67 wRC+) Mookie is 22 and the future of the Red Sox

straw men much? And don't refer to me as "dude" I was obviously exaggerating because some people's expectations on the return some players on the Red Sox team (or even in the farm system) would net is a bit misguided. With his track record, Holt doesn't seem like a "sell high" kind of player, unless you find a really moronic GM and banking a trade on finding a moronic GM is not very practical.

to bad he was trying to do to much there and he didn't have a little more disciple he would of had an rbi there. Oh well maybe that will come next year.

how was Shaw so mediocre at AAA? That was a classy AB against a tough LH - and it's not just BABIP luck - he's hit the ball hard. His age and track record are against him, yet . . .

HOF Jose Iglesias: 100+ -3 DRS 1.7 WAR
Montas was the real loss (and a Ben blunder)

That was a great at bat by Shaw. He ripped more than one pitch against a tough left handed reliever. He didn't miss the monster by a whole lot on the ball he put in play either.

Defensive metrics are weird and inconsistent. I think Iglesias is a very valuable guy if he can stay at or above 100 wRC+. The Peavy trade still made enough sense at the time IMO.

I had no problem with Peavy for Iglesias (but was proven wrong). But Hahn snookered Ben on Montas (when the White Sox had zero leverage). I've always felt that Iglesias' defense was more spectacular than good.

Pitchers should know by now that Arod hardly swings at anything and usually gets every close call.
