GCL: 1. Anderson Espinoza Back to Back GCL #1s. Rafael Devers last year was GCL #1 (and, of course, 2013 was Austin Meadows). Before them, Hanley Ramirez 02 and Luis Soto 04 as GCL #1 prospects Wendel Rijo 9th in 2013
Today, NYPenn League 1. Andrew Benintendi 6.Luis Alexander Basabe
(Last year, Sam Travis was 15th, and Kevin McAvoy was 20th 2013 Margot 7th Mercedes 10th Callahan 15th
2012 Marerro 7th Pat Light 17th
2011 Garin Cecchini 2nd)

Espinoza and Benintendi both being rated above Robles is pretty impressive. That means Robles would be something like the 6th or 7th-best prospect in this system (excluding Owens). That's some amazing depth.

Love the catch-all thread. Probably a good spot for the catch-all reminder that these lists can be very screwy as they base them on what managers in the league said.

The same thing Andrew Benintendi was doing in the NYPL? Now if they start him in Low A next year, then yes, that'd be really weird.

Interesting stuff about Devers ... I hadn't realized that little factoid about his doubles.

They also released the Carolina League list today: www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2015-carolina-league-top-20-prospects/To recap: Carolina Lg: Margot at 3, Travis at 9, Rijo at 19 Eastern Lg: Margot at 10 Again, as James said, the Eastern League list was crazy stacked this year - the writeup says it could be historic if half of the 20 guys listed reached their ceilings. For reference, Josh Bell was at #20, and after being #2 on the Carolina League list, Bradley Zimmer was #9 on the EL list.

Every single player on that list is a Top-100 prospect and has a realistic All-star projection.

Watching Marrero at third at the end of the season was a revelation. He's exceptional, making difficult plays look so easy it may have escaped a lot of us. He's just really smooth out there. I can see him eventually being a .250/.310/.350 hitter, and while that's nothing to get excited about, it makes him valuable given the defensive chops.

RE: Marrero, a look at the starting shortstops on the 10 playoff teams:
Correa .279/.345/.512, 133 wRC+ Kang .287/.355/.461, 130 wRC+ Peralta .275/.334/.411, 105 wRC+ Tulowitzki .280/.337/.440, 100 wRC+ Tejada .261/.338/.350, 95 wRC+ Flores .263/.295/.408, 95 wRC+ Russell .242/.307/.389, 90 wRC+ Gregorius .265/.318/.370, 85 wRC+ Castro .265/.296/.375, 80 wRC+ Rollins .224/.285/.358, 80 wRC+ Andrus .258/.309/.357, 77 wRC+ Mercer .244/.293/.320, 68 wRC+ Escobar .257/.293/.320, 67 wRC+
So looking at the last, say, six guys, I see no reason to think that Marrero can't develop into a guy who hits enough to be starting shortstop on a team with an otherwise-strong lineup. Not really a guy you pencil in for a 10-year run at the position, but an Adam Everett type who'll bounce around a few teams and be a serviceable stopgap. Doesn't help, though, that he doesn't run like Andrus or Escobar do, and of course Mercer isn't on this list if Kang doesn't get hurt. Maybe not quite a poor man's Didi Gregorius, but a lower-middle-class man's Didi-Gregorius?
Of course, it also doesn't equal the kind of player who headlines a deal either.

Nearly missed this, but from the Int'l League's "League in a Box" feature, McCoy played as the top pitcher's park in the IL this year. Something to consider when looking at some of the PawSox lines on both the mound and at the plate, perhaps. www.baseballamerica.com/minors/international-league-box/

Wow, the list hasn't been finalised yet but one straight A (who'd definitely be Moncada), two A- and a B+. I don't believe there ever was at least three Red Sox A/A- in John's list that I can recall.

This is a pretty minor update....but after the Kimbrel trade, I was curious to see how MLB updated our top 30 list and was pretty surprised to see who entered at 28, 29, and 30. Lakins, Ockimey, and Steen....

I believe the MLB rankings are based on last year, they are almost a year old. They don't update in between except to move traded players and base their rankings on the grades given a year ago.

I believe the MLB rankings are based on last year, they are almost a year old. They don't update in between except to move traded players and base their rankings on the grades given a year ago. This is exactly what they do, and it is beyond a useless approach. It is worse than not updating at all, because it wouldn't be misleading.
