The sox got graham godfrey, a 28 year old RHP from the A's as a PTBNL for Sandy Rosario. Is this a decent exchange? Will he contribute at all in 2013?

Regardless of production, pretty good exchange from the Sox point of view, since Rosario was DFA two days after he was acquired.

yes, excellent. rosario was here for weeks. the bloom is off the Rosario. no room for 2 Rosarios in Sox org.
maybe we can trade Godfrey for a position player. I hate right handed relief pitchers now. somebody has an idiocicrocy about RH RP

Can we call him Gilbert? I know the last name isn't exact but that's all I think about when I see this guy's name.

So, it comes down to we got Graham Godfrey for free. Sounds like Moneyball to me.

Odd. Maybe one or two of the theoretical pending trades will actually happen now (Salty (+?) for Floyd, reliever for X).

Brian MacPherson @brianmacp The merry-go-round of Sandy Rosario continues: The Cubs have claimed him on waivers from the Red Sox.

by the time CUBS put Rosario on waivers, BoSox roster will be 40 and somebody else will have to do the deed. I heard that if all teams get a guy on waivers in 12 month period, that that team gets a automatic on clearing him. I hope he gets a chance to pitch again in 2013

what is odd about Rosario is: 4 teams want him enough to have him in the past 2 months. He still has an option remaining. Yet they don't want to option him, they insist on waiving him. He dominated in AAA in '12.
I surmise that Cubs will use the option and waive him again before April 2014. (Or maybe they waive him in a few days.)

He did have great numbers in the minors, but in barely more than 30 innings, so it's a tad bit of a small sample size. Also, his K rate was more "good" than "dominant." Probably more important is that he's gotten absolutely smoked in three (admittedly short) MLB looks. I think teams clearly see him as someone worth claiming, but not worth keeping on the 40-man. Scouting report is that his 4-seam is straight - it's likely that it's a pitch he can blow by ML hitters but gets hit hard in the majors. He's working on a 2-seam for that reason this offseason (H/T Marc Normandin: www.overthemonster.com/2012/12/12/3759774/chicago-cubs-sandy-rosario-boston-red-sox-waivers)
