Yankees have a big edge in uniform quality tonight. The Astros make the playoffs for the first time in 10 years and they show up wearing orange? What in the Sam Hill is this?

And the world has gone from "omg, it's Johnny Damon all over again, why are they too cheap to re-sign these guys" to "wow, the Yankees benched Jacoby for a one-game playoff. Such a great non-move.

Enjoying listening to Chris Archer in the booth. He's giving some pretty good insight.

Now I can totally enjoy the post-season. Don't have to stress about the Sox losing. Don't have to dread a Yankee championship. I get to be a baseball fan and root for the most exciting games possible without caring who wins (I could get behind rooting for the Cubs, though).

Was going to comment the other day that it was time to add some photos at the top of the home page. Just noticed it was done. GOOD JOB BOYS. Nice to see the group of young emerging players, but also hard not to notice the gap from Clay to Xander. Its easy to explain why this team has struggled the last few years.

Yanks down. Mets, Dodgers and Cubs to go! What did the Dodgers and Cubs do to tick you off? Those are two franchises the Sox actually beat in the World Series. It would be nice for Cubs fans to know what winning it all feels like. I certainly can relate to that.

Well at the very least the nightmare scenario of a Cards/Yanks World Series has been averted.
Who are people pulling for? For reasons I can't entirely explain, I really want Pittsburgh to win it. It just feels like they've earned it.

I love Pitt's roster, McCutchen seems like a great guy and Marte is a weirdly underrated player. But I have to go with Texas. They are not the best team left, not by a long shot, but I want my main man Adrian Beltre getting the ring he deserves. Plus, Cole Hamels is my favorite pitcher in the game and he deserves another one. Anyone but the Cardinals really.

If the Yankees do not score any runs in the postseason were they really even there?

How long do you think MLB will stick with the one game WC game as opposed to a 3 game series? I mean the only downside is time, which they don't really care about as they go into November anyways, and I'm sure an extra few games on TV are worthwhile.
From what I've read, a five or even seven game series doesn't really give you an idea of which team is "best", but three is better than one. I think the "WC" matchup should be 3 games.....Rant over

I really hate the 2nd wild card, but I know expanding the playoffs will never end.

You know, you try to instill good values in your kids, work hard to raise them right and teach them the difference between right and wrong. Usually you just can't tell if you are succeeding, but every once in a while, you see that maybe, just maybe, you are making a difference. The 9 year-old said this morning: "I don't care who wins the World Series ... as long as it's not the Yankees." Tear in my eye.

Put me in the camp of really liking the current playoff format. I like that more teams are in contention later in the season. I like that there is now more value to winning the division vs. winning the wild card. I never liked the fact that it didn't make much difference whether a team won the division or wild card.
And the one game playoff doesn't bother me either. Neither team won the division, so they are playing for the right to make the playoffs. It's not like the top team is knocked out because of a playoff.

Is there anything more exciting than the game tonight? And how much better is the Postseason when the Yankees are no longer a threat? Now we just need to get rid of the Cardinals and it's all good.

At its core, baseball is entertainment, and while you lose some credibility in terms of having the "best" team make it, you gain a lot of unpredictability and excitement.

So according to Jenifer Langosch, Lackey will start game one for STL.
If you would have told me that Ellsbury would be benched for a playoff game and Lackey would be a game one starter in 2015 after the way their 2011 seasons went.....

I'm pulling for whoever wins tonight's game to go all the way. Both have the best rosters, and World Series games in either Wrigley or PNC is something I am 100% on board with. Failing that, I want to see the Cardinals lose to the AL team, because the Cardinals losing in the World Series is fun.
I'm okay with the wild card game on its own - if there was a 98 win team against an 86 win one, I'd feel a little bit bad, but it definitely incentivizes winning the division again. I'm probably the last person left who doesn't like the wild card itself, though. I really do miss pennant races like the 1993 NL West, where two legitimately great teams are playing high-intensity regular season games. That does a lot more for me than the Team Entropy five 84-87 win squads stumbling in. I almost would love a system where only 90+ win teams could qualify for a wild card. It would be a scheduling mess, sure, but you wouldn't accidentally get a crummy squad like this year's Twins in the playoffs while keeping a spot for a 97-win third-place team like the Cubs.

So you would have 2 divisions in each league then, or 4? And even then, without a wild card, the Cubs almost certainly miss the playoffs, as it's hard to imagine divisions that don't have them in the same one as the Cardinals. Would be a hell of a pennant race, but I'm all for systems that make sure the top 3 teams in a league make the playoffs, even if they happen to all be in the same division.
