A prospect is fun to watch, but trading him for a sure thing in the Majors is never a losing deal.

DD made his moves early so we don't have to meet the insane demands at the deadline. Genius move. Our bullpen has so many injuries at the worst time its really bad luck. Koji,Carson,Kimbrel our best 3 are all down. Thank god we traded for Ziegler and Taz is back. Layne and Clay are not worth anything besides a few innings in a game we are down 10 plus runs. Doesn't leave us many options. I am dreaming of a 3 way trade where we give up 0 top 5 prospects and we land Chapman lol.

Maybe you never watched baseball before but of the 20 years I've watched it i watch a team slack at the begining of the second half and end up being left out of the playoffs when they could of won it. ALSO, yeah when your top 3 relievers all go down at the same time its the worst time. Even if it happened in the playoffs we have starters who can come out of the pen. in the season you don't take your 3/4 starter and put them in the pen to try and win a series.

Joel Sherman @joelsherman1 8m8 minutes ago Jersey City, NJ Just spoke with Dombrowski, said plan with Kimbrel 1 IP Sat, all well, activate Mon #redsox. Feels solidifies with Ziegler shifting to 8th
Presumably, this means Barnes/Taz to 6th/7th as well, with Ross/Buch to handle long relief and Layne for LOOGY duty. Kelly presumably goes back to AAA.

Agree that's probably the general plan, but Monday's game comes after the trading deadline. Wouldn't be shocked by any means to see another secondary piece added or Buchholz dealt for a lottery ticket before then.

I know we need depth in Pawtucket, IMO, I would trust Kelly over Layne in a tight spot. We have the only scary LHH in the AL. Chris Davis is hitting .220. Cano, Saunders, maybe. Plus Kelly can give you a couple innings. We have enough depth in Pawt.

I think the bull pen is a short term long situation. Taz, Kimbrel, zielar, barnes, and Kelly are very solid. The problem is they are all Righty. If dd makes a trade for bullpen help it has got to be a lefty. Who that is, is a good QUESTION. The yanks are not going to give us miller. Next year Carson comes back but he is still a righty. Still need a power lefty, probably two. Maybe there is a trade out there that moves Kelly or hembree for a QUALITY lefty bull pen guy.

I'd certainly inquire what they'd expect for Miller.

Kelley might stay with the big league club if we can get rid of Clay. I wish we can get a young pitching prospect for buchholz. Maybe another systems pitcher will work out better who knows.

I agree get rid of clay, ross and layne. maybe we can get some A league prospects who develop. In the mean time let Kelly, light and hembree pitch and see if they can prove themselves. Maybe between now and next season we can get at least one power lefty bullpen guy. Lastly trade willis and Farrell for hickey the rays pitching coach.

I thought about Hickey as Maddon is now with the Cubs. He's signed through 2018, so apparently he's content there.

Read about Robby Scott in an article today in the Globe. A lefty with very good numbers against lefties at AAA this season. Could he get a look once rosters expand? Or potentially sooner? Signed out of Indy ball at the start of the season.

Why no talk of seeing what Light and Martin can do in the majors? We need another RP tho regardless. Prefer a lefty. Get buch off the team put Kellys in his spot. Kelly has big potential in the pen. We no he can crank it with the best of them has legit off speed stuff. He may end up a good CL one day but for now I'll settle for a good setup man if he can command his stuff and miss bats like I believe he can he could be the second half surprise we need.

They both need some more time in AAA. Noe on the other hand is beasting. He deserves an extended look.

Noe Ramirez is the guy you bring up when you need a extra arm.

Still can't understand why Hembree is in minors while Kelly and Buch are in bullpen.

Still can't understand why Hembree is in minors while Kelly and Buch are in bullpen. Kelly is joining him in AAA and Buch can't go anywhere.

Still can't understand why Hembree is in minors while Kelly and Buch are in bullpen. Look at Hembree's last few outings with the Sox. Sure overall his season looks great, but had struggled BIG time recently. Buchholz has pitched well out of the pen. Saved their butts yesterday and got the win. He's good long man in the pen. Could be the future of his career if you ask me.

Chandler Shepherd
Seems like he has blown through every level quickly. Could he get a call up?

I want to see Kelly get another shot in the pen soon. Can't be much worse than what we've been getting and his upside as a reliever is very high.

I didn't get the game last night on TV here in Florida. All I can tell is from the box score, and it seemed Pomeranz was pitching pretty well. Once they took him out, the pen just gave us no chance at all.
Now, let me 1st say I haven't been on board with a lot of you about Farrell needs to go, but I have to ask...why was he taken out after 5 1/3 innings last night? His progress and comfort are of huge importance to us getting to the playoffs. It's easy to be a Monday night quarterback, but should he have been kept in?
I measure a successful start as 6+ innings and 2 or less runs. Pomeranz's line looked like we could have gotten there. Thoughts?
