Just a break in the topic. If the Bradleys name a son after Jackie will he be referred to as JBJ Jr? According to Dave O'Brien, yes. JB3 has a great ring to it though. Heard on the radio they had a baby girl. I didn't hear a name reported. Maybe they named her Jacqueline?

Plenty of time for boys. Just time the birth for the offseason next time.

You know what's truly insane?
JBJ has spent more time cold than hot this year. 33 games and 132 PA cold or slumping, 31 games and 129 PA hot.
Here's a breakdown, excluding his last 2 games where he appears to have heated back up.
Date 4/5- 4/24- 5/26-6/17 G 16 29 17 PA 59 121 73 BA .222 .415 .188 OBP .271 .488 .288 SLG .315 .783 .438 wRC+ 52 233 89 BABIP .293 .462 .200 ISO .093 .368 .250 Spd 7.3 5.2 8.4 wSB 0.2 0.2 0.6 K% .237 .165 .219 BB% .051 .116 .110 GB/FB 2.09 1.52 0.78 LD% .171 .209 .146 GB% .561 .477 .375 OFFB% .244 .291 .375 PU% .024 .023 .104 HR/FB .000 .296 .130 Pull% .561 .384 .438 Cent% .268 .384 .313 Oppo% .171 .233 .250 Hard% .293 .419 .417 Med% .561 .384 .417 Soft% .146 .198 .167 Zone% .516 .470 .464 Z-Sw% .679 .619 .648 O-Sw% .267 .311 .284 Z-Cont% .737 .875 .886 O-Cont% .643 .677 .525 The Hard% in his second slump confirms the subjective impression that it was exacerbated by crap luck. He was swinging and missing a lot more at pitches outside the zone, and hitting a ton more popups and a lot more easy fly ball outs (while pulling the ball quite a bit more), but he was still hitting the ball hard a lot.

Interesting note, though: check out the BABIP vs IsoD and SLG for his last "cold" streak. He's still been pretty selective (IsoD .100) and his SLG is pretty good for a BA of .188. He looks to be much less struggling than just having terrible luck. So he's had a pretty long stretch of consistently seeing the ball well and hitting it hard when he swings. His K rate has been solid, and his Z-Sw has been steady. Looks like he's laying off some pitches outside the zone (maybe a response to not "feeling" hot because of the "slump," and thus waiting for his pitch? Would explain the great IsoD, and it looks like pitchers are challenging him less, with the lower Z%). His Z-Con is still very high...higher than his hot streak.

Looks like he's underneath the ball a little, too, though. Would explain the lower BABIP, with more PU but fewer LD.

One thing I want to point out that I finally figured out. Anyone who peppers the Green Monster is going to have a ridiculous BABIP because 90% of those wall balls are unplayable. Well I don't know about 90% but at least 70%.

Why yes, a ball that hits off the Green Monster is a hit 90+% of the time...

Why yes, a ball that hits off the Green Monster is a hit 90+% of the time... I said it because people who call for it to regress don't always take the wall into account. It should not regress to league average.

The point I was making (poorly) is that someone standing in front of the wall can catch some of the balls that would have hit the wall if they weren't there. Anyway, this is kinda silly.

I need a picture of a chimpanzee picking nits, so I can post it every time someone over-interprets a marginally ambiguous statement on here. Pretty soon, Soxprospects will look like a screening of "Every Which Way But Loose." Which is good, because chimpanzees are funny.

i think a lot of credit needs to be passed along to sox management for not give no up on him.
He is indeed be a very streaky hitter, but his defense is steady as a rock.
I can't wait until our killer b outfield is complete when benintendi gets here.

It's just you. Like any good agent, he's touting his client in a roundabout way, but he was very clear with GMs who called him. Bradley is with the Sox... for now.

I'm doubting there's much truth to this. Do you think 6 GMs have nothing better to do than personally call an agent to ask about a minor league player's availability? Sounds like Boras just trying to get some spotlight.

I thought it was pretty clear I meant by the teams calling him (or that he claims called him) and telling him - and thus his client - that they'd love for the player to leave the RS and go join their teams. Pedro drew the ire of MLB a few weeks back for praising Jose Fernandez and hinting that the'd like to see the RS get him. Now teams can call the agent of a player under contract and tell him they'd like to pry him away? If that doesn't violate the rule prohibiting the "enticement” of rival players 'respecting employment," I'm not sure what does. How about if the teams called JBJ directl yand told him and told him not to sign a long-term contract with the RS because they would pay him big once he hits FA? Don't get me wrong. If there's a way to get a punishment for Boras out of this - maybe death by stoning or something like that - I'd be all for it. But I was talking about the teams.

Tampering is an antiquated concept, nobody cares about it and literally every team in pro sports does it. Would it really make you feel better if those 6 teams were caught and lost a 10th round draft pick?

Yes that would make me feel like the league isn't singling out the Sox for doing what every team does. Not really, but the CBA needs to be a lot more complete and get rid of the gray areas so that this doesn't happen. Kind of like how if the NFL really cared about football inflation levels, they would assign NFL employees to guard the balls at all times, but they don't really care about it.

No, I wouldn't feel better if they each lost a 10th round pick. I think if they violated the rules as blatantly as it seems they did, the forfeiture of a 10th rounder would be much too lenient. If they called the agent of another team's player and asked about obtaining the player, then they did the equivalent of giving the finger to the rules, to MLB and to the RS. I agree with JimEd. If MLB is going to have anti-tampering rules, the rules should be clear to everyone and enforced fairly.
