He already said he doesn't want a tour. He put up numbers again, he'll be playing.

also doesn't even say "a source says." Not really worth a thread. the word "report" in a thread title should be reserved for a credible report.

Let the staff decide whether the thread stays. (I have no idea if the linked article is credible - highly doubt it, though)
One interesting thing about timing, if true, is it could be a signal for David Price to join the team. It is thought that he and Ortiz do not get along. If Ortiz were to announce his retirement after 2016, it could increase the chances that Price would come to the team, knowing that he and Ortiz will only need to coexist for one year. It would also help the team to plan for Hanley at 1B for only one year, knowing that the DH spot would be open after 2016.

Also, sorry if this thread is removed, shaky source for sure. I tried my best to label the thread clearly as a rumor and thought it was an interesting topic to discuss considering that it would, like you said, put Hanley in the DH spot from 2017 on.

Who doesn't expect him to retire? I certainly do and I hope he does. I don't need to watch a crappy Ortiz either suck in the middle of the lineup or be a baby about being benched or moved down in the order. I could be wrong but I doubt he accepts when he's done. Which is to be expected of a competitor.
I hope he has a strong year and goes out respectably. Or I hope he mellows in his old age and isn't so about him and accepts a lessor role at a smaller salary to mentor the younger generation. Doubt that happens considering the fuss he made about playing first base last year

Doubt that happens considering the fuss he made about playing first base last year I don't expect him to retire, but wouldn't be shocked if he did. He has said it gets harder every year to keep playing at a high level. But the fact that he remains among the best hitters in baseball might encourage him to keep going, especially with an option in place for 2017, several records cballenging him, the potential for helping the team, fans and ownership win another ring or two, and the knowledge he must excel to put some myopic baseball writers into a position where they HAVE to vote him into the HOF where, IMO, he belongs

He won't get into the HOF because of the steroid stuff. Fair or not that's the likely reality. Having to overcome that and the DH thing is the longest of long shots

DD better be proactive finding a power bat. Once Ortiz is gone there will be severe lack of power in the lineup. With the FA market week the next few years, he needs to be looking to upgrade the power. Given his track record we can't count on Hanley this year, so don't tell me two years from now we can. DD"s track record is all about power arms and power bats, he'll find one.

Because he is a DH, and because some writers will hold that NON-roid issue against him, he has to have better career numbers than almost anyone to get in. By playing well as long as he can he clearly demonstrates that he belongs in the Hall, and not voting for him is a despicable action. BTW, the folks at MLB and the Justice Dep't will likely insure the release of the data on Papi's skirmish with that non-binding pre-testing sample. Meanwhile, still no word on the two NY lawyers, both NYFY fans, who illegally, intentionally and publically violated the sanctity of those court sealed documents. It's a crime that such a crime remains unpunished and the impact on Papi remains unresolved.

I don't know, Hanley is perfect for DH. He's a great bat when healthy and DHing should keep him that way. Beyond that, Ortiz is kind of he last of the Mohegans when it comes to DHing. Without the steroids rampant in the game, the guys we came to expect as a DH aren't around anymore. That's why when you look at who the other teams DHs are they aren't all that impressive.

Having to overcome that and the DH thing is the longest of long shots It's definitely too early to say that. The Hall of Fame just overhauled their voting system, and the perception of PEDs could change dramatically in a relatively short period of time. I wouldn't be surprised either way.

"Doesn't want a tour." -------------------------
I don't think he'd mind one. I hope he has an uneventful winter, does his prep work, readies for one last campaign, hits .265/30hrs.

I agree-----Hanley I think could be similar to A-Rod that by just hitting & staying out of the field may increase his offensive production and reduce injuries significantly. It appeared as if injuries seem to find Hanley & he will probably get hurt as well DH'ing (foul tip breaks foot, check swing pulls oblique, ect). Overall, we'll have at least 2 years of Hanley with only a bat in his hands. Just have to get thru this year.

Shaw and Travis platoon at 1B with Hanley moving to full-time DH?
