Will it come in the form of Papi reaching the 40 hr mark before leaving the copy of the house that ruth built? hr 40 will be papi's gift to some lucky yankee fan for this season. the haunting will occur in subsequent seasons, perhaps when the yanks appear to have a playoff series wrapped up

He should've had two last night. Wind pushed both back in.

This man brings so much to the table it is incredible. I'm not usually for MVP's as only a pitcher or only a DH. But what Ortiz brings - heck even Hanley Ramirez known for not getting along with teammates calls him his brother. Some of what he does and is has to rub off positively. He is extremely crucial in that he is the only lh bat among the 1st 5.
With that said, still remember the great defense of someone like Mookie.
Never going to see a guy like him again for the Sox. Clutch personified.

Clutch personified. FIFY. We have been beyond lucky. Having had Williams, Pedro, Orr, and Brady in this city is already insane. There was no need for fate to drop Papi in our laps, too*. Maybe that's a payback for the 86 years. *Not that he is in the class of the other four in terms of skill, but the very fact that he has become as iconic as they are tells you everything. Just as each of them is either a strong or slam-dunk candidate for greatest hitter, pitcher, hockey player, QB ever, Papi is a strong contender for the great athlete in any sport who added the mots to his legacy with everything that an objective analysis like WAR doesn't measure: clutch performance, team and civic leadership, charity.

We are going to miss this guy even more than we can imagine. I have been a Sox fan since Williams was the left fielder and only Ortiz and Pedro were in the same class of superhero players. But he has surpassed Williams and ranks with Pedro as the greatest inspirational player the Sox ever have had.
