Tall LHP's are some of the latest developing prospects. I don't think Trey Ball will ever be Clayton Kershaw, but I still think he's young and athletic enough to develop into a major league pitcher. This year would be his junior year in college. Let's at least give him the 2016 season before we write him off. I agree with this line of thinking. We are all disappointed with Ball so far, but Temple is right when he says Tall LH pitchers are often late to develop. My understanding is that the scouting somewhat supports this theory with Ball. So far in his professional career when he repeats his delivery correctly he has gotten good results. Problem is that has not been often. Just saying that two years ago there were questions about his raw stuff. Last year he sort of put that to bed. Meaning his raw stuff is probably good enough. Not overpowering or anything but good enough. If he can repeat the delivery he has a back end starter floor. Not the end of the world. I agree this is a big year for him. This is the year to show he has figured it out some and doesn't go through the terrible stretches where he looks clueless. To clarify, I've been a vehement supporter of the Ball pick, in theory. I was actually pretty happy at the time, and wasn't all that disheartened after his first full season. I haven't given up hope at all, and a good year in high A at 21 would be nice. But to this point, he still has a terrible K:BB ratio, and pretty bad peripherals. He also hasn't shown the sort of projectable stuff the team had hoped...he's working 90-91 instead of 93-95 the way many had projected after he hit 94 in HS. His curve and change have improved some, but neither looks to be better than average, and his command is still clearly substandard. I doubt he's ever more than a bullpen arm or maybe a 4/5 starter at best. Of course, he's got 4 years or so to figure it out, or pull a reverse Jerez, so I'm totally rooting for him, and I'm far from having given up.

Two top-100 potential guys go down with injuries:
Dustin Dopirak @tennesseebeat 19h19 hours ago Dave Serrano said his son Kyle is out for the year with an injured elbow ligament. Said it isn't torn but needs surgery.
Jonathan Mayo @jonathanmayo 11m11 minutes ago FLA HS LHP Jesus Luzardo, No. 40 on our fall @mlbdraft Top 50, has told scouts he might have torn UCL. Waiting for 2nd opinion

Any thoughts on Will Bensen and the Sox pick? He is now ranked 23 on the BA list. Would it be considered too much of a reach to take him at 12?

Nick Senzel at #2 jumps out. Sure does. He has like 6 career home runs in college. I wouldn't buy stock in that one.

Everytime I see Ryan Boldt's name I remember how much of an uproar there was on this site to sign him.

I don't expect the Sox to be picking this high again for a long time so why not go for a really high ceiling guy. Jason Heyward type potential maybe.

Nothing wrong with plucking Daulton Jeffries, the next Sonny Gray, at 12.

My hot draft take as of now is that I would not mind it if the Red Sox take pitchers with their 1st five picks. I'm usually in favor of BPA all the way but I don't think it would be a bad idea to kill'em with quantity.

Fun mid-round pick: UNC OF Tyler Ramirez is hitting .460 . 577 .760 through 15 games, helped by his team's overall strong offense; bats cleanup 5-9/185 , Bats/Throws L/L (some sites have this wrong), decent glove. arm, has been playing CF and RF

I think it's spelled Ramiriez. If not, we can't draft him.

It's still to early too judge, but there's a chance Seth Beer is the next college player to elevate himself past just the spotlight of wonky baseball Draft nerds. In 2018, he could be on a Prior/Strasburg level.

Willing to bet anything get go college arm, be it Sheffield, Krook, Jones, Shawaryn, whoever. Legit prospect depth between Johnson and the two kids.
