Take it for what it's worth.

Carrabis is saying Sandoval told the team he was reporting today and he didn't show up. Take it for what it's worth. Every beat writer has echoed this. It's based off Farrell's comments about Sandoval on Thursday, when he said he'd be arriving today. Sounds like he was a no-show, and is still in Disney World. Yeah, it's somewhat disappointing he didn't show up early, considering his miserable 2015. It's a little more disappointing that he told the Sox he'd be here today and never made it. But it's not that big a deal -- he's allowed until Monday. If, when he does emerge, he's in clearly better shape, plays promisingly this spring, and makes it clear come April that he's more nimble in the field and competent at the plate (especially vs. LHP), then this is a non-issue.

I'm all for letting Sandoval put last season behind him, but this isn't exactly a good way to start this year.

I hate to say it, but I have almost no hope for Sandoval. Five straight years of decline, and regardless of how much weight he did or didn't lose this offseason, it seems obvious to me that the body has always been an issue for him and will inevitably be even more of an issue for him in the future.

Realistically my biggest hope for Sandoval is that he is not a negative war player. Players have really good and really bad years, perhaps he may be in decline but last year was just a really bad year exaggerating his drop off.
I actually have more faith in Hanley than Sandoval. He seemed to primed to become an offensive force in Boston but never really seemed to be the same after hurting his shoulder. Hopefully playing first base will mitigate those injury risks.

In that case, there is no reason to keep him around. Just bite the bullet, it's already a sunk cost and go find a cheap, replacement level player.

I seriously would get rid of him THIS WEEK for ANY salary relief and/or ANY prospect package and get rid of the cancer fat Panda is. Shocking he did not lose weight. Utterly shocking. Plus the arrogance. Everyone was there working hard and in shape (except Ortiz and Pedey who have earned the right to come in to camp on time and always have). I am a bit shocked Young was not there early as well but he is always in shape and a veteran. Panda is shocking!! The comparison between him and HanRam is very telling. Both in similar situations and HanRam in camp very early and lost all the weight he was asked and working hard. There is zero excuse for Panda. He is a liar as well. Dump the POS now and move on. Personally I hope he starts the year 0-50 with 50k. I do not want any part of him. A lot of money to eat but it must be done. Cancers must be dealt with.

I am, foolishly I know, hoping that mediots maintain a positive attitude about prime talking head targets (Panda, Hanley, Porcello, Buchholz, Castillo, JBJ) at least until April. Report day is Tuesday. Nothing happening on the weekend. If he show up Monday, he is reporting early. Meanwhile, Hanley looks pretty good, no? Edit. Wait, so Panda is there and reported not to be? That is significant. Any Pix from other angles to better define his Panda-ness?

Good thing Shaw is around as he will likely get quite a bit of playing time between 1st and 3rd if Hanley and Pantload are still on the Red Sox. Those two guys are probably two of the worst signings in Red Sox history.

I see Shaw as better defensively and offensively already and without any negative character to spread in the clubhouse. I do not like the PERS ON Panda is and the fact that he is a very diminished PLAYER only adds to my anger for him. I do not like the person or the player. It is hard to believe that as much as I love the Sox... I will be rooting AGAINST one of their players. I can not root for him even if he is helping us. Piece of crap. I do not need to see him play. I will always hate the person he is.

Some good and bad from Spring Training so far.
New guys and young guys seem in great shape and ready to roll. Love what I'm hearing from Swihart and Shaw and Owens and the other young guys who want to nab spots.
The bad? Hanley takes the weekend off and seems poised to continue to do the bare minimum to learn first. Honestly, the only hope here is that his other infield work translates and he's more athletic than he looked last year.
Sandoval? Awful. In January Farrell told the writers at the dinner that Sandoval was down "20-22" pounds and had retained a personal chef dietician. He's clearly in awful shape. The video of him at third looked atrocious. Luckily, Dombrowski doesn't feel tied to either of these guys, and has showed a "put up or shut up" attitude in the past with inherited managers/coaches and talent.
Will be real interesting to see how Farrell commands this team. He normally has immense faith in veterans, yet the poised to struggle veterans are largely Hanley and Panda, two guys he really doesn't want to be betting on. I also fail to understand the JBJ platoon talk. JBJ hits lefties, and plays insane defense. Young should be platooning with Castillo. We'll have to see how it shakes out I guess.
