Didn't know where else to put this but I wanted to share. For whatever reason I have a copy of the rankings on my google drive from 9/21/12 Mookie Betts was #61, he had actually dropped there from 59 and a high of 44 earlier in the year. Also of note, Steven Wright also saw his stock drop down to 44. And because he got promoted to the big league club this week, Mike Meyers was at 62. Sometimes you just never know... Mike Meyers ≠ Mike Miller Also, I don't think we've ever ranked beyond 60. But yeah, Mookie didn't look great in Lowell, at least early in the year.

I know he is probably not in the top 60, but this kid espinal at Lowell, he has a nice swing. He seems to have nice hand eye coordination.
He learns to lay off the pitches out of the strike zone and mayb he makes the top 60 one day.
I like his swing.

Yeah I thought you never went past 60, but I was looking at an excel spreadsheet where he was @ #61. Of course I realize now that was just the number of the cell which started on #3 so I guess he was actually 59! Anyways my point was that I came across it and I was reminiscing on how amazing his ascension was. Everyone always expects the Moncadas, and the Bogaerts to be good but when a guy comes out of nowhere and becomes a star and it feels extra special...to me at least.

Where is he on the Lowell roster? maybe I have bungled the name, but whoever played third base the other night is the guy I am talking about. I could have sworn the scoreboard said espinal.

Which night were you there? They've used four starters at third base already. It will probably stay by committee until Dalbec signs.

FWIW he actually wasn't in the top 60 on 9/21/12. forum.soxprospects.com/thread/168/ranking-changes-9-21-12He was in and out of top 60 from August 2011 until popping up at # 50 on 5/17/13. A week later he was in the top 30 and # 10 by September. The following May he was # 1 and stayed there until he graduated.

Three questions jump out at me:
1) Why did Kopech jump Travis? 2) What is holding down Yankory Pimentel's ranking? The scouting report and numbers led to me think he was going to rise into the top 20. Instead, he fell back three spots. 3) Why did Stankiewicz fall so much? He's obviously pitching poorly but that's a huge one-month fall for a pitcher with decent stuff and decent results up until this point.

Numbers aren't great. Scouting is... fine. I saw him yesterday and while the slider could be plus and the fastball velo is good, if he leaves the FB up, it's going far (both HRs yesterday, for example, were on 95 he left up). Control comes and goes too. His velo, btw, goes down significantly in inning 2 (94-95 became 91-93 in inning 2). 3) Partially a correction rather than dropping based on June. I wouldn't call the stuff decent either - it's all average-ish. He had a good April and then his numbers fell back down again - hard to rank him based on the one good month when he then turned right back into the guy he was last year - his May was pretty bad too. 47 K in 79.1 isn't getting it done for me.

Wow Ockimey up to 8. Is Chavis moving down a function of just real good players moving up or is he becoming more and more "disappointing?"
Chatham ahead of Chavis? A 2nd round pick - chosen at around his spot vs a 1st round pick of 2014.
So far Light has been a disaster in the show. How good is he really?

Bump for the 7/15 rankings update DetailsSummary: New guys:
- Jason Groome is # 4 with grades of 6,3-7 (current, floor-ceiling)
- #20 is Shaun Anderson, 4,2-5
- #27 Bobby Dalbec
- #28 Mike Shawaryn
- #56 (not new to the system but ranked for the first time) Roldani Baldwin
- #58 (as above) Juan Barriento
- #60 (another one) Hildemaro Requena
Familiar Names:- #5 Michael Kopech is unchanged in the rankings but his ceiling moved up about 105 notches from 6 to 7.
- #8 Josh Ockimey, up from 17 on 7/1.
- #14 Michael Chavis, down 6.
- #15 Travis Lakins, down 6.
- #17 Roniel Raudes, up 3.
- #36 Justin Haley, up 6 spots in spite of 3 new guys entering the rankings ahead of him.
- #37 Steve Nogosek, up 11.
- #38 Gerson Bautista, up 8.
- #42 Austin Glorius, down 10, a less than ... ... wonderful result.
- #46 Ben Taylor, down from 36 on 7/1.
- #50 Enmanuel De Jesus, up 4.
- #51 Victor Diaz, up from 57.
Missing:- From #3 last week, Anderson Espinoza traded. Sigh.

- From #30, Aaron Wilkerson traded.
- From #49, Wendell Rijo traded.
- From #51, Kevin Steen, still with the system but no longer ranked.

Bump for the 7/15 rankings update Interesting. What's the reasoning in placing Groome ahead of Kopech? Groome has been rated 6 3-7 Kopech 5 3-7. Don't forget, Kopech missed large chunks of two consecutive years, he's not even stretched out yet. If one were to look down the road a month or two, pretty much any order of the top 5 would be defensible.

So far Light has been a disaster in the show. How good is he really? Yeah I noticed that too. Ockimey has jumped, I believe 29, places in two successive rankings. ...a meteoric, maybe Soxprospects historic, rise.

Months ago I made the joke that Ockimey was going to come out of nowhere and fly up the rankings because he was an unranked, 5th round pick out of high school who signed above slot. Granted, two completely different types of players and this is a function of pure chance and not an omen.....so effectively this comment is completely pointless. But....Yay for Josh!!!!
