McAvoy still having control troubles, 3BB's in 4 IP. Portland leads 10 singles to 2 singles, ummm . . . 5 to 2 in runs. But no xbh by either team.

McAvoy stuff looks decent but 39 strikes 31 balls after 4 innings. Witte has been rolling 2/3 today (Now .600). Iirc he already has 2 HRs. Again, no fans but it looks cold.

He was starting to play some outfield before he got hurt last year. Not surprised they're getting back to that. He has a much better chance at carving out an MLB role if he can be a Holt-esque super utility guy than just as a 2B/3B.

If the Phillies gun is correct, Shepherd is throwing his FB 95-96. LOL, I jinxed Witte, GBDP. He's DH today but has been playing 3B. . . . Not watching but from the box, 2B Basabe with a HR in his 2nd AB of the year. (Interesting, he's playing SS today) Greenville up 3-2 top 5th.

Man, that Buffalo roster ... Domonic Brown, Jesus Montero, Casey Kotchman. So much promise, now toiling away in AAA. After the game, they're all gonna go out to a late-night diner.

Yeah, that's just Triple-A sometimes. There's a theory that teams don't want their top guys in Triple-A for too long because of all the malcontent older guys hanging on who think they should be in the majors. My understanding is that one thing the Sox have historically looked for in MLFAs is that they're good clubhouse guys to make sure that doesn't happen.

Which L.A. Basabe is the high prospect and which is the other brother who got a contract to keep the important one company?

Luis Alexander Basabe is the better prospect, but rumor has it Luis Alejandro Basabe is no slouch either.
Ironically enough Alejandro is off to a better start than Alexander and we've had a pretty large enough sample size now to make assumptions that are in no way crazy. Alejandro is a .750 hitter.

Greenville looking like the kind of team that can have several pleasant surprises. There's nothing cheap about the hits they're getting.
Washington's HR was opposite field and his two triples previously were to center. No question he has the power mentioned in his profile. He might have changed his mechanics since last viewed though because he doesn't look like a high strikeout candidate, his swing isn't long and it doesn't look like he's over swinging.
Monge threw a bullet from right field to complete a double play at home.
2B Basabe having a good first game but did misplay a grounder at SS.
Glorius didn't generate a lot of swing and misses but did get a lot of foul balls. If the balls called against him were balls, he didn't miss by much. He was around the plate all night. Nice build, mechanics and threw a few very nice changeups.
Poyner made quick work of the eighth. KS, KC, wimpy foul pop. 11 pitches. Greenville 5-2 after 8

WOW. Poyner just struck out the side on 10 pitches, almost all swinging strikes. 5-2 game over. (No velocities given that I heard).
Reference above, both Basabe's are serious prospects but the CF Alexander has the bigger upside. That might even out a bit though if Alejandro sticks at SS. Looking at the tools, no way this was just a family enticement signing.

We should add "no slouch either" to Alexandro's profile page.

This is crazy talk. It's a long season and there will be some spectacular plays and BABIP to say nothing about regression. 600 tops.

Yeah, the mix of guys on teams is one of the things I find really interesting about AAA. I was just struck by the bustnificence of this particular team, though. Three former Top 10 prospects, and I think all of them had at least 2 years in the Top 15. I wonder if they try to one-up each other on old breathless BA write ups. Montero: "Baseball America called me 'a future cornerstone of championship teams!" Brown: "Oh yeah, well they called me 'the type of guy who can anchor a franchise for a decade.'" [They lock eyes in competition for a moment, then look down sadly, Brown spits out a single sunflower seed] Brown, softly: "Yeah" {exeunt}

Yes I was being sarcastic, (although I was tempted to say otherwise) I thought it was so outrageous that no italics would be needed, but I suppose in todays world no one can be too careful. The season is still young, so it's still time to have fun with small sample sizes.

Ha, they swung at 7 pitches, 1 foul and 6 swing and misses. At Greenville, they use a lot of side shots when there's a right handed batter. There was some serious drop (but not sharp break drop) to his fastball. The batters were swinging over it. ADD: It's too bad our guys didn't find out which twin was born first while they were in Florida. Calling them 'young' or 'old' Basabe would be easier.
