Blake Swihart for Kyle Schwarber.....in about 3-4 weeks.

As soon as Vazquez shows that he is healthy. We get a cheap Papi replacement. Help Theo out a little. If no DH coming in NL, where does Kyle play there? Kyle will be an elite hitter. Swihart will prob become a good C, but not as likely as Schwarber becoming an elite bat

I don't think it makes sense for the Sox. They are playing for this season and Swihart figures to be a major part of their success. Perhaps they look at this framework in the offseason, but certainly not now or anytime soon.

What? Trade for the guy who needs major reconstructive knee surgery?
If Swihart goes it'll be for pitching. Not some dude who might be hobbled forever.

Yeah, I'm less worried about the ACL than the LCL. I can see him having stability issues in the future. At least it wasn't the "terrible triad." But either way, I'd prefer they keep the guy with his health, defensive value and a solid bat. Better to see how the season is shaping up, that Schwarber's surgery goes well, and he's able to rehab. I don't buy that he'll somehow be worth more after the season is over. It's the same giant question mark, with no new performance data. If anything, if Swihart plays well it enhances the Sox's position by giving them more options.

This deal makes no sense on either side.
The Cubs have a good catching prospect in Willson Contreras. They don't exactly desperately need Swihart.
Meanwhile the Sox do have a cheap replacement for Papi, the next Paul Goldschmidt, (I'm joking).
The Sox have a legit option of sliding Hanley over to DH and handing over 1b to Sam Travis in 2017. I know some aren't high on him, but it wouldn't shock me to see him tear up AAA pitching and hit with increased power. I think this guy's hit tool is really, really good.
I think the Cubs are better off hoping that the NL adopts the DH really soon, which could happen. At least they're one year closer to that happening.
If the Sox are going to trade one of Vazquez/Swihart, I would think it will be as part of a package for a #2/#3 type starter, not a DH.

Now the trade would be a potentially elite LF bat with below average defense for a average defensive LF with average offense lol

How about trading him for a premium pitching prospect? Few years ago the Mariners traded a rookie pitcher (Pineda) coming from a big year in the majors for all bat-no glove catcher in Montero. Swihart's bat doesn't have the potential that Montero's was projected to reach but the glove is much better and FWIW he's a much better runner so if the Rangers call offering Dilon Tate, would you pull the trigger? I won't but if they're willing to add say Ronald Guzman, I will definitly make that deal. What do you think is a Rangers solid return for departing with Swihart?

I don't think he gets traded unless it's for an MLB piece or one beating the door down in the upper minors. The Rangers need a young catcher but I think we need starting pitching while they have hitters to spare. Maybe a three team deal with say the Indians for Salazar? I know he isn't an Ace but Gray is a good 2-3 with over three years of control.

Agree that if Blake is traded this season it will be for a potential #2. But I also believe we shouldn't be in any hurry. I'd like to see Swihart catch almost every day in Pawtucket and hopefully rake. He has always been one of my favorite prospects, but it is evident after Friday night that unless Vazquez gets hurt.....he is the future behind the plate now (not a bad thing).
WHAT a game he had. Swihart's worth drops big time if he doesn't catch. If you want him to dabble as a left-fielder, OK, but don't decrease his value on the trade front.
Let Swihart catch pretty much every day, improve, and supply depth for the next 6 to 8 weeks. MAYBE we move him at the deadline, but get his value up and keep that safety valve in AAA in case we need him.
As I said, I'm a big fan, but CV makes our club more solid now and probably in the future (and it is hard for me to come to that conclusion as I have a crush on Swihart).

I am almost certain Swihart will be traded by the AS break. And I am almost as certain he will not bring a #2 SP in a deal straight up. That would involve more than just Swihart to bring that return. He is undervalued, he will continue to remain undervalued (unless he is raking the ball in AAA at a +.350 clip...which is possible I guess) and the Sox by publically saying his defense is not of MLB caliber, while also suggesting publically he find a new position to play while at AAA, have not strengthened their hand in trading Swihart.

In an auction-type situation with multiple bidders, leverage is not really based off what his current team can use him for, but what the other bidders could use him for. Even if he doesn't have a role at the major league level for the Red Sox, as long as multiple other teams still strongly value him, the Red Sox will still have plenty of leverage.

Swihart (the catcher) and another piece (oh I wish it was Panda - lol) may be able to get the pitcher we need behind Price. I do think with Swihart now (potentially) available, the A's and the Indians (to name just two teams) will be more open up to trading one of their young pitchers. Billy Beane is so hard to figure out. Sonny Gray as a number 2 would be great, but it may be possible. Too little, too much, or just right for Sonny Gray.......Swihart, Owens, and Castillo (we pay half)?

Let's just get everything done with one trade; Gray and Reddick for Swihart, Owens, Castillo we pay a ton of contract, Dubon and a lower guy that has upside. I could also be talked into trading Sam Travis if we are getting both Gray and Reddick. That's a lot to give up, but a trade for Gray is going to hurt. If you can do it without touching the top 5 you make the trade.

That appears to be a ton to give up, but #2 starters are really expensive. I can not see Oakland giving up gray without at least one of the big 3, moncada(plus cash), benintendi, or Devers.

With so little catching I see Swiharts value equal to those 3. I would trade Devers if you took out Swihart.

I'd like to keep Swihart, he's to good a hitter. He hit 274 with an obp of 319 in 288 abs for Boston last year. Only 24yrs old, he's worth a lot.

Similar numbers in their rookie seasons (Jaso 5th in ROY voting). Not a lot of power, decent average, ect. They tried Jaso @ 1st. He just never become the Posey type. I think we need to move him now while his value is somewhat high. A number #2 is a gray area. Harvey is his teams' #3, but would be a #1 on most teams. I'd move him for Matz (similar cheap team control), but not a Harvey or even Jose Fernandez.

Texas could use a young catcher. Its top ranked C prospect is #22 out of 30. Right now it has Holoday and Nicholas behind the plate, both in the 27 - 28 yr range. It could have interest in Swihart. I'd like to see Nomar Mazara as the return. Power hitting LH outfielder with a power arm.. Only 21. Had a brief stint with the Rangers this season and hit 3HR.

I knew I read a post about Mazara-Swihart but couldn't locate it before I posted here. Texas has Holaday and Nicholas RH/LH combo splitting the C duties. Neither is an A lister and, at their ages, seem to have little upside. I am impressed with Mazara's resume and his performance in his brief trial with the Rangers. It looks like trading a need for a need, though our outfield is not desperate. We could expand the deal by including Castillo and getting a pitching prospect back.
