The Braves are absolutely terrible. We should really go for the sweep here.

I thought it was Porcello, Price, Wright, Buchholz

Chancin has started out the year very hot, that might be a tough game to win. Their bullpen is weak though, and our offense keeps us in games. Hard not to root for a sweep even if it's unlikely

I thought it was Porcello, Price, Wright, Buchholz You are correct. Redsox.com had the probables mixed up earlier and I was rushing to get the post up. The Sox better slaughter Bud Norris. And we have our ace going up against him so it should be an easy W.

Nice break running into a bad team now. I want to see Porcello pitching in the 7th tonight, even if he's getting hit. I know taking one for the team doesn't seem to be a thing anymore, and I hope it's not needed. But the innings are needed.

It's remarkable how overworked the bullpen is already despite having carried eight bullpen arms for the last week or so and having churned through three or four other guys from Pawtucket. In theory, they should have guys to soak up blowout innings tonight (Ross, Light, Layne), but the high-leverage guys have pitched a lot and you'd like them to get a couple days off.

The Orioles are facing the Rays and White Sox for their next two series. If we sweep the Braves (I won't say we have to, but 13-9 would be pretty nice), and the Orioles drop a few games against those two, we could be right around first place!
Time to take advantage of our weakest opponents!

A blowout in the first game would be perfect for the pen. Tehran at his best is a C&C pitcher so patience might be the key here.

Please tell me Porcello travelled ahead of the team on Sunday, and did not need to take the overnight flight to Atlanta?

The best news for the Sox if Freeman's extended slump... which always scares me.

The schedule is also not doing them any favors. No off days for 2.5 weeks is really tough this early in the season, particularly with starters working up to full strength (or ineffective)

Astros were playing almost as badly as Atl and the Sox struggled to win that series. I hope this goes better.

Astros were playing almost as badly as Atl Yes, in much the same way that Bud Norris has been pitching almost as poorly as David Price. Looking at this board, you'd think half the people had never witnessed baseball in April previously.

Speaking of which no Ortiz OR Ramirez today. Unless there is injury news, all I have to says is John Farrell, everybody: @timbritton 2m2 minutes ago Red Sox v. Teheran: Betts, Pedroia, Bogaerts, Shaw 1B, Rutledge 3B, Holt, Bradley, Vazquez, Porcello.

Oh yeah let's just bat Rutledge 5th, because there's a ton of empirical evidence showing people perform worse if moved around in the order.
I assume Farrell is benching Ortiz and Ramirez because staying up late last night would lead them to dying at 1B today.
Still a better team than Atlanta and I'd hope they're available to pinch hit.

It's the god damn Braves, gimme a break if you're gonna complain who Farrell tosses out there in this series. Giving Ortiz and Hanley a day off against a terrible team is something you should do. Give them a day off against Chacin too just to be safe.
Hanley has like an 80 wRC+ in his last 550 PA, which is probably what Rutledge is gonna give you anyway so no downgrade there. And Ortiz will prob play like 140 games this year. So a day off after a late night is a good idea.
