Anyone considering maybe Aubrey Huff to a minor league contract? It would provide the Sox with some depth at first base. He has had a solid career hitting .278 with 242 home runs. He is only two years removed from hitting .290 and 26 home runs. He has mightily struggled with production and injuries in the past two years, putting up a .239/.309/.359 slash line.
A minor league deal would never hurt. It would include an invite to spring training. It could be an incentive laden deal. It would be a no risk high reward deal. I hope the Sox do this for depth and possible production. How does this sound?

How about Pena from Tampa, He's played here in college. Minor league deal and I don't know if Napoli will stay healthy. I guess maybe try Sands? Huff is a good idea he's familiar with the AL EAST.

Yeah I don't Napoli will stay healthy for the length of the season. He has played over 140 games once in his career in 2010 and other than that, not more than 114. Pena is a decent option as well, but I don't think Sox fans will put up with his outrageous amount of strike-outs, so I'd probably leave him alone. I'd like to give Sands a shot because I think he could be productive given playing time.

Worst case scenario we have Gomez.

I'd like to give Sands a shot because I think he could be productive given playing time. From 2006 until 2010, he was completely misused by the Angels. He platooned at Catcher with Jeff Mathis (the guy with a negative career WAR in ~500 games played). They never really used him as a DH and he never played any first base until the year you mention as his career high, 2010. So really, all you're looking at then is the last two years with the Rangers where he had 108 and 113 games played. In both years though, he received the majority of his starts at catcher (57 and 69 starts respectively) and catchers, even ones with extensive playing time at other positions, don't generally break 140 games played anyways. If you're worrying because of the delay announcing his contract, then okay. I don't think just his games played totals tell much about how healthy he'll stay playing first base next year though.

I think they are looking for a lefthanded bat that can play multiple positions, first base included. Sands bats righty. Huff plays multiple positions and bats left. Pena bats left and I think only plays first. Of the three Huff is the most likely. I would nove him a major league contract tough he was terrible last year.

It is tough he was terrible last year. Maybe it was the .212 BABIP. That should improve if he gets another shot. But by how much? He appears to be picking up downslope speed on the backend of his career.
