More good news: Koji threw only 10 pitches and Kimbrel only 11. They should both be - as TB12 would say - "fresh as lettuce" tomorrow.
Also, good to see Ortiz finally - FINALLY - after all these years do something in a big spot.
But seriously, the shot of him hugging the kids near the dugout goes down in Red Sox lore. Another iconic memory provided by one of the most incredible athletes in the history of this city.
What an incredible storybook game to steal.

That was a great pick by Ramirez, those are the tough ones when they're like a couple of feet away. And Ortiz must have been sitting offspeed there - that's pretty amazing

meanwhile, back at eHarmony.com, there is lamenting in the Sox therapy room.
even the Cuevas fan club is reluctant to say, "anything Escobar can do, Cuevas can do better."
"And when she’s gone, remember you once loved her, you once needed her, you once cared about her more than anything in the whole world, you can’t deny she was ever there, you can’t deny what you had, you can’t deny it ended over absolutely nothing, you can’t deny that regardless, you still think about it. One day you’ll realize what you’ve done, you’ll come back and she’ll be gone."

From Elias: David Ortiz cleared the Green Monster with a two-run tiebreaking homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Red Sox a 4-2 victory over the Yankees. That marked Ortiz's 48th homer versus the Yankees (not including five in the postseason), breaking a tie with Harmon Killebrew and Rafael Palmeiro for sixth-most all time against the Yanks. Of the six players with at least 48 homers against the Yankees, five played at least part of their careers with the Red Sox - Jimmie Foxx (70), Ted Williams (62), Manny Ramirez (55), Carl Yastrzemski (52), and Ortiz (48). The only non-Sox player on that list is Hank Greenberg, who ranks fourth with 53 home runs.
Ortiz was the second 40-year-old to homer at Fenway Park on Friday night, after Alex Rodriguez put the Yankees on the scoreboard earlier in the night with a solo homer. Friday's Red Sox-Yankees matchup marked the first game in major-league history in which a player age 40 or older homered for each team. espn.go.com/espn/elias?date=20160430

It's gonna be a black hole in the lineup when he leaves. I use to think oh we will put Hanley at DH. He is not even 25% of Papi. Shaw has been a godsend nobody says one word of Panda. Does anyone notice when Farrell puts Young in the lineup it's not the same right now ,vs Holt. TC keeps bringing that up.
By having Shaw and Holt everyday now that kills our flexibility and bench. Maybe when Kelley is healthy put him in the rotation for Buch. Just kidding.

That was a great pick by Ramirez, those are the tough ones when they're like a couple of feet away. And Ortiz must have been sitting offspeed there - that's pretty amazing On the broadcast, in one of the more informative moments in his career, Remy said that Betances had started off with a slider to 73% of batters this season. So Papi was just sitting on that ... That seems like a stupid plan for a guy with Betances's fastball (the slider is good, but it's better after seeing 99 mph), but whatever. Had worked so far, I guess.

The first pitch breaking ball only works as a change of pace. Once you do it often enough that hitters are expecting it, it gets dangerous fast. The funny thing is that, even if you were guessing breaking ball there, it wasn't a bad pitch. A couple inches off the outside of the plate, and if Ortiz tried to pull it (as most hitters try to do when they're sitting on a pitch), it would have gone right into the shift. But Ortiz incredibly went the other way with it and drove it hard enough to get over the Monster. That man is just an incredible hitter.

The Yucks are in town. My blood begins boiling. Unmatched feelings of disgust and hatred permeate my brain. I want our guys to beat them down......say it again...beat them down. It's pathological...I know...but I can't change it. Now this post hits home. I try not to post much on Yankee games. My old man rational brain tells me to get over it. The kid who got his heart broke year after year in the 60's says pour it on.

I expect Benintendi in LF later this year and Holt can go back to being the super utility player.

Hanley goes to DH, Shaw to first, Moncada to third (hopefully). Can Moncada play third well? Honest question because that would be awesome and everyone just assumes he's a future OF.

It's the H part of DH that Hanley wouldn't be able to handle. He put up an OPS-plus of 90 last year and is at 91 this year. A contending team needs its DH to be an impact bat. To put Hanley's suckage in perspective, he's basically the same hitter as JBJ (89 OPS-plus) so far this year.

Remains to be seen, but right now the answer is a hard no. He has the athleticism (including arm strength) to play just about anywhere, but he's yet to really put it together at second base. If he can't become more consistent with his actions in the infield in the next year or so, they'll probably convert him to the outfield full time. I don't see them trying him at third until they're pleased with him at second.

Anyone know where I can watch the full replay of the game? I wanna save this one. They started replaying it on NESN @ 2:30 today, but they may cut out some of it. If you subscribe to MLB.TV, you have access to all game archives for the year (and other recent seasons, I think).
