Not to nitpic but he's 20. He's 10 months younger than Benintendi.

He's 20y, 11 m and 6 days, It's fairly safe to say he's 21 don't you think?

He's 21 years old in High A, you can pile up walks by being passive at the plate, kids down there are having troubles throwing strikes. When you move up the ladder, you'll face pitchers with better stuff who throw more strikes, so if the guy is K'ing at a 23% clip in A ball, at what rate do you think he'll Ks at AA? I see a big time red flag with these contact issues. A thing I've learned following prospects during these years: Strikeouts are predictive, walks are not. Strikeouts are easily cut down by being more aggressive early in counts. You strikeout more and walk more when you're being passive. It's a huge problem when you're striking out a lot and not walking.

lol, details. Benintendi's 22.
Technically this is the age 21 season for both.

Moncada's K rate, including his seven PA so far today, is only 22.2%. That's not even bad.

Moncada's K rate, including his seven PA so far today, is only 22.2%. That's not even bad. Which is pretty much in line with last year. Only the walk rates have increased.

Tick lower than last year, actually - he was at 22.9% with Greenville. Which casts some doubt on the theory that his strikeouts will jump as he climbs the ladder.

Moncada added a double then came around to score. Salem up 7-6.
That's the final. Pimentel with some more solid numbers (but had some wild pitch issues).

Moncada's K rate, including his seven PA so far today, is only 22.2%. That's not even bad. You'd like to see him maintain or improve that rate as he climbs the ladder, so it's something he'll have to be working on, but yeah, that's an extremely non-alarming strikeout rate.

Moncada's K rate, including his seven PA so far today, is only 22.2%. That's not even bad. In A+ Ball, when you're 21 and you don't hit for good power, you're not dominating the level and should be promoted ASAP.

Also, for a little perspective, though his first 23 games last year, Moncada had a .220/.312/.317 line with a 28.0% K rate. Then he adjusted to the league.
And, for a little glass half-full, sponsored by your friends at the local small sample theater, Moncada has now struck out only twice in his last four games, and he just hit his first home run. Simply keeping up his level of play would be outstanding, but if he's actually making an adjustment?

Moncada, Dubon, and Benintendi scored fourteen runs between the three of them today. Christ.

Oh please get Benintendi out of Salem already. Too cold to play in the Eastern League? Then ship him off to Pawtucket! milb.com has not updated his stats to include his 2-4, 2B in game 2, so I calculated them myself. He gained a whole 7 points of OPS (to .371 / .436 / .639). Definition of having a good year.

Henry Ramos last 4 games: 6/17, 3B, 3 BB, HBP (.353 / .476 / .471).

Even in gif form, I knew that the sloppy mess that Nick Williams hit for a walkoff home run came from the hand of Noe Ramirez.

Benintendi is of course easy to drool over but from the offensive side considering all the factors, I'm not so sure that he's had as big an impact as Moncada. Nah. Even if just looked at offensively Benintendi has a clear edge. More OPS, slugging and much better contact profile. Benintendi is consistently driving the ball and having much better at bats. Considering Benintendi's last week of baseball, I think we can say he is adjusting well to the league also.

I wanted to clarify that I'm not saying that Moncada is a bust or a disappointment, in fact, there's more to like than to dislike: The athlecism is off the charts, he's willing to take walks and spit on pitchers pitchs, he hits the ball on the screws (the guy rarely pops up), he'll hit line drives at an above avg clip, there's even some opposite field pop so the high BABIP skill is there. I just don't think that he's dominating the league and has nothing to prove there like Benintendi does. I think he should stay there at least till the CL ASG, like they usually do with the Bradleys, Cecchinis etc, and work on his 2 strikes approach, defense etc Anyway, his K rate is something we should keep an eye on.

Moncada's strikeout "issue" was a topic of conversation in the latest podcast, for those interested.

So he wasn't being patient before this week? Could have fooled me.

I think the key word here is more patient.
