www.hardballtimes.com/the-doug-mirabelli-trade-an-oral-history/I figure this deserves its own thread, even if only for the part that former SP staff writer Tim Healey wrote it. Hilarious. Takeaways: - Josh Bard comes off as having gotten completely screwed. His wife was 8 1/2 mos pregnant? Yikes. - Towers would have done the trade straight up for Bard (grrrr) - Epstein tried to include Jermaine "AAAA" Van Buren instead of Meredith (lol)

Great piece, although I found the whole thing pretty embarrassing as a Sox fan. Theo just got worked over by Towers, and the crazed rush to get Mirabelli back to Boston was pitiful. Although, remembering Varitek running to the backstop every third pitch when Wakefield relieved in some playoff game gives me pause ...

Tax payer money was spent on a police escort to the ballpark for a back up catcher and no one really complained. Kinda crazy. Also this article reminds me of this classic gem from that era.

Also Josh Beckett being told he got traded for Mirabelli Love the abrubt response by the State Police spokesperson too There was one thing that I couldn't remember but the extension that only lets me spend a certain amount of time on the Forum at work was about to lock me out so I just posted. That was it. Thanks. I can't believe that happened. Keep in mind that not only was that Beckett's first season with the team, but Theo hadn't even been the guy to trade for him.
