“@jaysonst: Clubs talking with Red Sox say they’re still trying to do ”something big.“ But for what high-end starter? Chris Sale? Sonny Gray? Mystery P?”

I still wouldn't rule out Lucroy (+reliever).

I still wouldn't rule out Lucroy (+reliever). God I hope they don't use their (few) remaining bullets on Lucroy. Even if we did get him, it would take him a few weeks just to get a feel for our staff. Pass.

Finally JF is looking to adjust the line-up. Betts is not an ideal lead-off hitter, his OBP is not above the league average enough and his SLG % is well above norm. JBJ was mentioned as a natural leadoff hitter while in the minors and his .370 OBP will attest to that to (while Betts is at 350). His P/PA shows he has an edge on Mookie to 3.86 vs 3.69.
So I propose that JBJ becomes our leadoff hitter 1.JBJ (L) 289/370/524/894 2.Bogaerts(R) 319/374/468/842 3.Ortiz(L) 309/395/617/1.013 4.Betts(R) 310/350/546/896 5.Pedroia(R) 298/370/444/813 6.Hanley(R) 275/351/445/797 7.Shaw(L) 264/327/467/794 8.Leon(S) SSS 8.Benitendi(L) SSS
AL Averages :258/321/423/745. Although this would take away some of Betts ability to steal bases, we would have speed sprinkled throughout the lineup.

(.234 vs. .236 ISO) I'd put Pedroia 1st which should reduce his DPs and give him more incentive to walk, which is when he's best. He also has the least power of the first 7 players in lineup and possibly in the entire lineup.

I'd go Back to 2.JBJ (L), 3.Betts (R), 4.Ortiz (L) 5.Bogaerts (R) 6.Shaw(L) 7.Hanley (R) 8.Leon (S) & 9. Benitendi (L). Takes the pressure of the kid for this year and eases his transition and it harkens back to the old Franconna line-up by going back and forth betweenrighties and lefties which makes it harder to bring in Loogy's etc by the other team and/or limits them to a batter.

I think I'd swap Betts and Bogaerts and put Hanley 6th and Shaw 7th, but I don't think you can go wrong with all of these great hitters.

1- Pedroia, 2- Xander, 3 - Betts (Betts hits for more power than Xander. And lately Betts has been the best hitter on the team. I don't want to drop him beyond 3) 4- Ortiz 5-- Hanley 6-- Bradley 7-- Leon (Leon hits left handed pitching much better. Shaw can't lefties well.) 8 -- Shaw 9 -- Benitendi. (Keep an eye on Beni. He starts showing power or just hitting very well - he needs to be moved up aggressively in the lineup. Don't "just" keep him at 9 if he is showing "a lot of production."
