Nice matchup this morning in Pawtucket. Henry Owens vs. Jake Thompson.
Also tonight as the Drive face Touki Toussaint. I'm looking at Marc Brakeman to get things going. As well-above slot college pitcher, I would have expected him to do better in low A. Toussaint appears to scuffling a bit, too, but he's highly rated.

Here's one take: Josh Norris @jnorris427 Josh Norris Retweeted Baseball America I'll take Rome's quartet of Soroka-Toussaint-Fried-Sanchez, plus Allard at some point.

I know it doesn't mean a hill of beans in low-A, but Rome is in last place, middle of the pack though for runs allowed. Possibly has a weak offense.

2BB, 3H, 3R in the first for HO - and just 1 out so far.

And even more suck for HO today. Not sure if he's working on something specific or just needs to get his head straight.
Ty Buttrey with a 5BB, 0K performance in 4-2/3 innings. With all that, only 3ER on 3H.
The two morning games must have been tough to watch with all those walks .

Owens' line (3.1 6 5 5 5 2 1) was even worse than it looks. He hit 3 batters, and got one of his 10 outs when a guy tried to score on a popup to 2nd (presumably a tumbling catch of some sort) with the bases loaded and one out. Probably not a smart move when the pitcher has retired only 5 of the 14 batters he's faced so far.

The fact that both Henry Owens and Brian Johnson appear broken has thinned out their SP depth considerably.

The fact that both Henry Owens and Brian Johnson appear broken has thinned out their SP depth considerably. It's cool cause we got Couch, O'Sullivan, and Cuevas... I guess. But seriously, with the 6 MLB starters, they should be OK until the deadline. At that point, they will either have 5 guys going good, or will trade for a starter. I'm concerned but optimistic.

It is Couchy's turn to get his cup of coffee.

The fact that both Henry Owens and Brian Johnson appear broken has thinned out their SP depth considerably. True, but we're looking at a current scenario where it would be perfectly reasonable to start Eduardo Rodriguez or Roenis Elias in place of any of the current starting 5. That speaks to how much depth we have in the system in general. O'Sullivan getting 2 starts really took a perfect s*%&storm of bad luck/ineffectiveness. I don't see that happening again this year.

The fact that both Henry Owens and Brian Johnson appear broken has thinned out their SP depth considerably. As mentioned though, it makes Elias apparently figuring it out over his last two starts all the more timely. They're not screwed yet, as Rodriguez hopefully is close and Elias is a viable option (much moreso than O'Sullivan). But I agree, they went from being loaded to just ok really fast.

It's amazing how SP depth goes from 9 @ the beginning of the year, to 5, back to 8 in a matter of a few weeks. Obviously every team goes through this, just makes you tighten up a bit.

Re: Monge
Josh Norris @jnorris427 Was just talking to a scout about this guy this week. Incredibly athletic outfielder who can play all three spots.
Greenville Drive @greenvilledrive #Drive roster move: OF Joseph Monge promoted to @salemredsox. OF Kyri Washington activated from the disabled list.

The fact that both Henry Owens and Brian Johnson appear broken has thinned out their SP depth considerably. Never get attached to a pitching prospect. Not Espinoza, not Owens, not Trey Ball. Just pretend they don't exist.
