Its going to be interesting to hear what happened with the Dalbec pick if it doesnt work out. Not too crazy about that one to begin with. For how many rounds do you get a pick the next year if someone doesn't sign?

“@jimcallismlb: 5th-rder Mike Shawaryn, redsox agree on $637,500 (pick 148 = $375,500). Maryland RHP, up to 94 from low slot, good SL too. @mlbdraft”

I really need to know why they gave Shawaryn ~300K over slot. Can't fathom.

More over slot: Jim Callis @jimcallismlb 2m2 minutes ago 4th-rder Bobby Dalbec signs w/ redsox for $650k (pick 118 = $501,300). Arizona 3B, big power, mound hero for @ncaacws runners-up. @mlbdraft

So all the Groome savings went to Shawaryn. Bleh.

Makes you wonder what discussions they had with Quintana and how much he wanted.

So they signed all of their top 10 picks. Does anyone have an updated number on the amount that the Sox can offer Quintana?

They have like ~125k left. We'll see how far that goes.

I assume he wanted more to the point where it would prohibit other signings

If Dalbec hits his top 1% percentile projection, he will have Cody Johnson's minor league career.

I really need to know why they gave Shawaryn ~300K over slot. Can't fathom. He's a top 100 prospect who was a possible top 50-60 pick heading into the year. He's was always going to be a overslot signing for the 5th round IMO. I'm not really sure why people are mad about going over slot for Shawaryn instead of Quintana when it appears Shawaryn is the better prospect, and who knows how much Quintana was asking.

Is it already a foregone conclusion that Quintana won't sign? Was his (likely) asking price that much higher than 225K?

Updated for Groome at $3.65mm, Dalbec at $650k, Shawaryn at $637.5k
Spent to date..: $7,232,500 Red Sox Cap....: $6,997,400 Red Sox Cap +5%: $7,347,270
Leaves $114,770 to apply to Quintana or other Round 11+ picks (not including $100k "free" from cap)

I don't get the big overpay for Shawaryn who has terrible mechanics with a potential ceiling as a middle reliever. Dalbec also surpirises me with over slot signing.

I don't understand why everyone is bitching and moaning here. They got Groome, Dalbec and Shawaryn signed. There was never any chance they were going to sign Quintana unless Groome failed to sign. Groome was always getting the rest of the pool. So, Groome got less because Dalbec and Shawaryn got more. The end result is the same.

Also....this thing isn't over yet. A guy who really wants to play pro ball might take a 200k bonus. We didn't think Brakeman would sign for a similar value last year. Just wait until tomorrow....I think we spend the remaining 100k+ somehow whether its on Quintana, or the HS guys with less pedigree (Michael Wilson, Beau Capanna, etc.).
