Excited to see "the great one" Josh Pennington make his 2016 debut today. I remember there was some positive discussion about him in the offseason.
Also, it's about time for Luis Alejandro Basabe to get some love and to stop being used a punch line. Dude is a 19 year MIfer slashing 311/414/463 and doesn't seem to have any glaring statistical flaws (BABIP is kinda high but not unreasonable). WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE HIS TIME?

I think him and his twin change uniforms on a yearly basis so we don't really know which one is actually having a good year except that it's the one playing MiF this year.

At what point does Haley become an actual prospect? He's a 6th-rounder with GB tendencies, and he's age-appropriate for his level. Excepting some stretches of poor control, he's had a pretty easy time in the minors.

Excepting some stretches of poor control, he's had a pretty easy time in the minors. When Haley pitches down in the strike zone and commands his pitches, he looks like a major league starter, but when he rushes the delivery and the arm drags, everything is up in the zone and he gets killed.

Congrats Justin Haley on a stellar debut in AAA! He kicked ass tonight. Wilkerson & Haley aren't sexy prospect names, but perhaps they can be back end starters if that need arises again?
Love to hear to thoughts from Ian and Chaz if they were there tonight and/or have seen Wilkerson recently.

Benny with another bomb. Certainly looks like he's made the adjustment to AA.
June - 19/64, 6-2B, 3HR, 8/4 K/BB, .297/.338/.531/.869
Tavarez is 5-for-5. He's quietly having a nice season (but I'm sure hitting in front of Benintendi helps).

Pennington with an interesting line.....3.1 INN, 3 H, 3ER, 0BB, 7K
looks like all runs came in the 4th inning on a HR, so it seems like he must have really had his way through 3.

Not the type of results that makes one think he's outgrowing the league or anything. Given the outsized expectations for him, he needs to keep accelerating his performance.

Are the Sox testing out Austin Maddox as a starter, or is he just filling in a gap in the Portland rotation?

Ball's simplified play log (2 innings at a time):
Ks, LD, LD, LD; W, LD, unsuccessful sac bunt (seriously), Ks, W, LD Ks, GB, LD, Ks; W, GDP, GB GB, PU, FB, GB; FB, GB, LD LD, GB, W, LD, GB
9 LD 2 FB + 1 PU 8 GB
LD per balls in play: 6/7 (plus 4 SO, 3 BB) 0/8 (no SO or BB) 3/5 (1 BB)
Yeah, and two innings ended with an out on the bases after a LD single, and one with a LDP. It could have been a lot uglier, and it's not good that he was unable to get both strikeouts and soft contact during any one stretch.

Do you think it shows some maturation and growth on Ball's part that he hasn't been and did not fall apart in these such games? In the past, he has typically been unable to stop the big inning from happening when men are getting on base.

No.......stadium mph not on.......I sat behind the plate & saw a lot of late swings. As Eric said, he was squared up a bit, but he battled through it. Went 7 strong & Salem got the win.

Perfect night, results-wise, in the system tonight. It's rare, I'd think, especially after the low-level minors start up and the number of games increases.

I can't remember any time with 8 victories and no losses. And i have checked basically every night for 8 or 9 years. 5 win nights yes 6 yes but not a 8 and 0 night. Also to me it feels like the system is the youngest it's every been. I understand part of it is the age of the crew up in Boston Mookie,Xander,Erod.
