Hell what does Papi think? First two months the team looks like they are making a hard push for the World Series. Now? Hell, might feet would be aching too.

This seems like a bit of an exaggeration. Two 23-year-old superstar players, plus a center fielder with most of his prime years still ahead of him, plus an elite farm system...I think most teams would gladly trade situations with the Red Sox right now. Yes, the World Series seems like a long shot this year, but that doesn't mean the organizational direction is pointing down. The Red Sox are at the start of something good, not the end of it. Sure....and I think tonight's game had me go to a place of despair I don't often visit for my favorite sports team....but we are losing Ortiz....Uehara..gone.....Hanley and Pedroia are a year older...and I am just am fearful on the pitching front....we are going to have to replace 60% of our starting rotation next year and that's if everyone stays healthy. It could probably be a thread on its own but I wonder if this team is on the clock much like the late 1980s Celtics. I remember KC Jones playing the vets for big minutes because he was trying to squeeze one more championship out of that core. I also think of the current Patriots that way. TB12 isn't going to be here forever. In the case of the RS, it's not age that puts them on the clock. It's the reality that two of the three young studs are represented by Boras, making it difficult - not impossible - to retain them past six years. I see the sweet spot for this team being 2019. That would be X's last year, barring a massive extension. You'd potentially have X, Mookie and JBJ as established stars and hopefully by then Moncada and Beni are productive.

Kinda feels like Papi isn't all in on winning this year. Maybe hes just a realist, but i've never seen him joking around like that before with the team getting crushed the way they are.

John Farrell, along with this organizations horrendous failure to develop MLB quality starting pitching and evaluate pitching generally, are ruining David Ortiz's final season.
If 'Trader Dave' even thinks about gutting the farm for another "elite" reliever or "number 2 starter" I'm going to be a very sad camper.
But where does all this start? I'm starting to get a miffed at the inconsistent and irresponsible ownership group, which has enabled much of the recent buffoonery, such as throwing money at Castillo/Pablo/Hanley reactionarily, the Bobby V/now John Farrell fiascos, treating Lester badly then handing Price 1m per start, wanting to compete now and pushing Cherington into 'mlb ready' pieces for Lackey, and handing the keys to the castle to DDo. Rant over..

What does John Henry think about all this, I wonder? "I still profit mightily despite the poor quality of the product that I am ultimately responsible for. God bless America."

With the Cash Cow resources Ownership has there is no reason not to extend or re-sign any Boras client. What Ownership has to do is quit signing dead weight deals to under average Players. See Castillo Sandoval Ramirez Porcello. You offer big smoke to 5 tool players and the Sox have 3 of them starting and two on the way up.
