7/2 Gameday Thread: Kopech isn't pitching, so don't even ask

Good games by all three top batting prospects. Benintendi is on the verge of making an MLB push, I can feel it. Fingers crossed that he gets scorching hot and a chance to solve the LF issue soon. Even if he puts up an OPS around .700, he should add value as a baserunner, LH hitter, and on defense. I realize there's a real risk of hindering his development, but his all-around toolset just has me believing he'll be OK. I still wouldn't mind seeing a Reddick acquisition (can you imagine their OF defense?!), but why trade if they already have the answer?

Btw, what's everyone thinking about J Basabe? He doesn't have the hype of his brother (or the power), but man, his triple slash looks awful good for a 19-y/o in low A. Gets on base a ton, has at least *some* XB pop, and steals bases. He could finish the year at .300/.400/.450 (he's been very, very consistent), with 30 steals, 30 2b, 10 HR, and more than a handful of triples.

Thats insane. Crazy thing is that we hardly have any 'prospects' down there. The Lowell pitching is pretty sweet and the DSL teams had prospects until yesterday. Yeah I agree....I didn't mean to say that those teams have no guys with prospect potential. The highest ranked guy in our system to play a game below Greenville this year (no rehab included) is ranked #25. I'm a big Pennington fan myself.

Roniel is awesome and he deserves to be a top 20 Sox prospect.

Yeah I have been watching him too....and pleasantly surprised by his performance. At the start of the year it seemed that he was regarded something akin to Xander's brother...an afterthought. He has really moved up the prospect list. One thing exciting about following the farm is that each year people seem to rise from out of the mist. A couple of others, of course, are Washington and Ockimey.

Ian Cundall is there now. I suspect we'll see scouting scratch on Ock and Washington and Espinoza and Raudes - and others, too.

I'm guessing that's about right for most years when the previous year's top draft picks there and this year's haven't signed yet, though. Like the 2005 Lowell team - which ended up stacked - probably looked pretty bare for the first couple weeks since the '04 draft was basically all college players.

It's now depressing to look at the DSL box scores Well are the combined team records due solely to those the Sox lost? Last time I looked we were at 39-10.

Benintendi had a serious adjustment to make entering AA, and now it looks like he's on track. Why throw him another double jump to the bigs -- that's asking for a traumatic slump to start his MLB career. To be honest, I don't think he'll be in the Sox OF on opening day 2017, as this site speculates. All that being said, IF Benintendi isn't all that far away from Boston, wouldn't it behoove the organization to start playing him in LF at Portland so he can get some early work on the wall?
