Please vote above for the player you felt had the best month, and discuss your selection below in the thread!
You may use almost any criteria you wish in judging each player's month. The one exception is that we ask that voters ignore a player's prospect status - in other words, please don't vote for a player based on the fact that you think he will be a better major league player down the road. However, to be clear, you may use other criteria in judging the candidates relative to one another that go beyond stats, such as age relative to level and the like. Just don't pick, say, a top 10 prospect over an org guy based solely on that.
Voting for this poll will close Wednesday at 4 pm.

"We really don't need the whole commercial break/warm-up routine every time a new reliever comes into the game. It certainly made sense in 1884 when they only switched pitchers when the starter was attacked by pickaxe or caught consumption, and no reliever was warming up because he was busy gambling and drinking." - JD
I still think I'm going to wake up and say "I shouldn't listen to the podcast before bed, I dreamed the Sox signed a guy from Curaçao named Charlie Zink." - KOC
even if Kyri wins this, and well deserved too, it is really time Aj's player page was updated to more than "Twin brother of Luis Alexander Basabe". Someday, perhaps Ax's player page might read "twin brother of the famous ...".

Ian's been in Greenville all weekend. We'll have lots of Greenville updates, don't worry.
Kind of hard to update a scouting report when you haven't seen a guy.

Greenville had some guys with really good swings, but Chavis and Washington are the only two that are projectable.
Not true. At all.
Actually, scratch that, because I'm not even sure what that means.

At first I thought this was a very tough decision.
Dan Butler had the best results at the plate, with a .358 EQa / TaV (based on OBP and SA), while Tate Matheny was a close second at .352. LAB's OBP-heavy line and Kyri's SA-heavy prove to be identical in quality: they both correspond to a .339 EqA / TAv.
Now let's adjust for position:
.371 Butler .350 Matheny .346 Basabe (based on his 14 games at 2B and 3 at SS) .328 Washington
Basabe's three years younger than Matheny (and two younger than Washington), so it comes down to him versus Butler -- a 19 y/o in low-A versus a 29 y/o in AAA. And LAB had 12 extra PA, plus had the 4 SB and 1 CS. Maybe not so tough.

"You either need some medication or you're an a******." -- David Ortiz correctly diagnosing Bobby Valentine
There has been widespread dissing of the players' All-Star Vote, which appears to be driven by HR and RBI rather than OBP and defensive value. Hence Trumbo over Springer, etc.
Of course, Washington swamping Basabe (who had the better month even before factoring in age) looks like the exact same thing. It is admittedly easy to forget that a point of OBP is worth roughly 2 of SA.

Is it in the minors though? We've been burned on Cecchini recently. You need the power to keep the OBP high as you move up with obvious exceptions of course.
Basabe is striking out too much, even during last month to believe he'll walk that much moving up. You need some level of power, patience and hit tool to walk in the majors.
Don't really want to get into the subject of how we're supposed to vote on these kids, but that's how I see it.
“We just lost a World Series game in 18 innings. But after that [meeting], it didn’t feel like we lost. It felt like we won.”

Eric, I think you're overthinking this. I voted Washington and it wasn't close. Look at it this way: in essentially the same playing time, the major differences were Basabe leading 12 walks to 8 and Washington leading 5 home runs to 0. And while Basabe plays the more important defensive position, it's not like he's great there - at best he's an average defender, and he's probably not that. If course Washington is also below-average, so maybe that gets us back to square one.
Anyway, again, if you think of it that way, wasn't even a question, imo. Your mileage may vary.
