Chris Cotillo @chriscotillo Red Sox acquire Aaron Hill from Brewers for Aaron Wilkerson and Wendell Rijo
Tim Britton @timbritton Ryan LaMarre was DFA'd to make room for Hill.

This is exactly the low cost move that I hoped we would make, though I wish we had given Wilkerson at least one crack at starting before trading him.

I assume Hill will be playing 3rd vs lefties. I don't hate it

“
“@jmastrodonato: So Red Sox lose Wilkerson, potential back-end starter, at a time when they’re desperate for SP. Have to assume there’s more in the works…”
@jmastrodonato: Would think if Red Sox are comfortable trading Wilkerson, Dombrowski is close to acquiring a starter.”

Shaw trade bait with Moncada on the way up?

Trading Shaw would be both stupid at a time when he's been a quality infielder at both hot corners. Unless the deal is for a legit starter, I hope Shaw wouldn't be moved.

Shaw trade bait with Moncada on the way up? No, we just desperately needed depth. I think Wilkerson would have been of use, but oh well. Rijo I'm just glad we got some value from before he flatlines. His defensive value is nothing and his bat isn't looking too hot either.

You guys, we needed depth and in particular a RHB in the infield. I think we can quickly stop speculating that this means current members of our IF are next to be traded.

My guess is platoon partner for Shaw, and offers the ability to rest Hanley or Papi by letting Hanley rest or DH and letting Papi rest and moving Shaw to 1st base when that's needed.

Pretty neutral splits for a guy who's presumably going to be a platoon player here (career 96 wRC+ vs R, 102 wRC+ vs L).

Between Shaw's foot problem, and Pedroia and Hanley's injury history, I think Hill will get plenty of PAs one way or another. Plus 102 is still about 250% better than Shaw I believe.

Tim Britton @timbritton 4m4 minutes ago Re: Wilkerson, was clear reading between the lines that the Red Sox didn't view him as having stuff to get ML hitters out. Thus, O'Sullivan.
Pete Abraham @peteabe 13m13 minutes ago They sold high on Wilkerson. When they called up O’Sullivan instead last week, pretty good sign they didn’t see him as a viable starter

Travis Shaw is batting .211 vs lefties. Sounds like someone that should be platooned to me.

I like this trade, I'm a huge Hill fan and it was such a small package we sent away that it's really hard to find any fault with this trade.

Hopefully the Sox can make another two or three of these types of moves. Really like it.

Plus 102 is still about 250% better than Shaw I believe. That's his past career, not his future projection.

Solid move. Rijo was never going to play with the Sox and probably won't even sniff the majors. Definitely sold high on Wilkerson also. Hill can be really streaky, but he does hit lefties well. Good depth move.

I like the move. That said, you can't say they sold high on Wilkerson if you don't say in the same sentence that they sold low on Rijo.
