The Red Sox Padres trade was larger than rumored.

Saunders is a left fielder. Trumbo is a right fielder.
Yost has them reversed. Silly game, eh?

Ned Yost is like all the knuckleball skeptics on here the last few years.
Yost would have run out of pitchers in a 15-inning game if Britton gave up a blast. At least he had Wright for 3 innings.
Regardless of how many pitchers they put on the roster, the manager figures out a way to go thru too many of them.

Ned Yost is like all the knuckleball skeptics on here the last few years. It may be because he understands the pitch too well. MLB radio mentioned yesterday that managers are very reluctant to expose catchers who don't have a history with the pitch, especially their own, to the thing.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is the American League team the home team if the game is at Petco Park?
They alternate home team. They have always alternated stadiums too ... but they didn't do it this year. Despite the stadium, AL is still home team this year.
On another note, each team names one of the starters to be a re-entry player. This is in addition to the catcher re-entry.
NL had Zobrist. AL must have been Machado or Betts.
Note that there is a DH for all all-star games now, regardless of who is the home team. That is a recent change.

I guess the All-Star game is going to be in NL ballparks (Miami and Washington) the next couple years and they don't want to give the NL home field advantage 4 years in a row if it's actually going to mean something in the playoffs Looks like I was a few seconds too slow lol

One underestimated benefit to following the American League is that I never have to see the awful Arizona road uniforms. Hideous.

One underestimated benefit to following the American League is that I never have to see the awful Arizona road uniforms. Hideous. Yep. I almost appreciate the fact that they didn't feel the need to go faux-retro. The Arizona Diamondbacks have no hisotry, and have never really had a good uniform, so I like how they were willing to go modern and crazy. Unfortunately, the uniforms are just bad. I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but the Marlins uniforms have grown on me. I even like their black alternate, and I general hate black alternate unis. The lettering on their cap is too big but otherwise I think I'm a fan.

I even like the orange ones. I understand this makes me something of a monster. But they're gaudy, just like Miami is gaudy and that stadium is gaudy, and that beautiful, nightmarish home run thing is gaudy. They fit.
The Astros orange alternates aren't terrible, but their regular uniforms (particularly their road grays) are pretty sharp and I prefer when they wear them. Every alternate Mets jersey is an ungodly disaster from the pits of hell. Do I hate the orange ones or black ones more? I think probably the black ones. Ugh.

It's like the eephus pitch, it's at home in the all star game. Wright throwing that knuckler would have been more fun to watch than a succession of closers all throwing 98 or Cueto constantly throwing to first.

Depends how long they stick with them, I guess. If people have memories in 2040 of Paul Goldschmidt like they do today of Nolan Ryan and JR Richard, then maybe. I think they'll modify them quickly though. I actually really like the way "Arizona" reads in the lettering of the road jersey, so if they simply dialed back to the coloring to something a little less futurist (a term I am using pejoratively) and got rid of "D-Backs" they could actually be onto something.

I don't mind the shade of gray. I do hate the snake skin pattern on the shoulders though...

So the A.L. Won the all-star game. Awesome! Nice to know the Sox will have home field for the World Series

Pardon my ignorance, but why is the American League team the home team if the game is at Petco Park? Because some 'Politico' met the Commissioner at the airport and had private conversation about grandchildren.
