Figured I'd start a new thread now that he's signed. Per Jon Heyman, Groome will head to Fort Myers for three weeks before heading to Lowell for the rest of the season.

Any new news out Ft Myer yet? I'd read that, while he's likely to join the team in Lowell, it's not a certainty, and if he does, he may not actually pitch in games...

Is he going through the shoulder program currently?

I never saw him taking a turn going after foul balls, or working umpire care (water)/doing bat boy duty in any of the 4 games I saw. He was in the bleachers with the scorekeepers, apparently running errands (I guess), or elsewhere whenever I noticed him.
For those familiar with who does the "dirty work" in the GCL.. It's the pitchers who perform bat boy, chase down foul balls.. etc.. Groome I never saw take a turn like the others in workout T's.
Edit:
I should add that have 1 more picture of Groome haven't yet uploaded. It's really large, but will once either go online and looke for something to cut it with, or find a disk here that's got a piece of software with.. Storage won't allow tons of useage and this pic alone as-is 2.6mb.

Can't wait to see this kid get into some game action. He's still so young. The upside here is extremely exciting.

That brings up kind of a point, tho you were obviously joking. Saw him get mini swamped for autographs 2 times. Not by tons of folks, but u know.. Half dozen when 2-3 were getting pictures and 1 guy seemed obviously knew who he was and had several baseballs for him to sign near the runway to the dugout where the area was I was watching the games. He was really nice, taking pictures with everyone, chatting, smiling like most every young kid does before they get ruined by the media and gawking fans as they progress. The kid acted great both times saw him like that and when asked him for pictures both times? Was nice as could be. Media will invent these stories. I'll have to see for myself more often than not before will believe them.

How much English did he speak? A bunch of people saying stuff in a language you don't understand would rattle anybody.

A bunch of people saying stuff in a language you don't understand would rattle anybody. Likely part of it, but I've heard crowds generally were an issue. Language isn't necessarily a barrier to understanding what someone handing you their binder of homemade cards and a sharpie wants.

There were also cameras on Moncada from the minute he arrived in Fort Myers. That doesn't happen to many 19 year old prospects.

Jason Groome is due to make his pro debut on Monday in the GCL, as long as his next bullpen session goes well. Looking forward to it.

Are all GCL games played on the "stadium" fields of the spring training sites? I thought they were played on one of the back fields. What kind of attendance do they draw? May be a Steve (of Bradenton) question. Edit: I ask this as many ST sites have FSL games played @ the main fields.

Groome being a consensus top talent in this past draft I would think there would be a lot of interest, from all types of baseball circles, so I would hope someone takes some good videos of him and whatever games he pitches the rest of the season. Looking forward to the fall instrux also

Yes, the Red Sox play the majority of their GCL home games inside JetBlue, a couple of times they will play on the backfields. Groome is slated to throw only a couple of innings on Monday and will get a longer leash on Saturday, per Jason Groome himself.

Just because he's a bonus baby doesn't mean he's getting treated differently by that ***hat of a pitching coach Dick Such and Tom Kotchman.
