The other Espinoza on the hill today, too. Poor Junior, he'll forever be known as "the other Espinoza". I guess that's what you get for being named Junior in the first place.

The other Espinoza on the hill today, too. He's so much the forgotten Espinoza that nobody even noticed that he pitched yesterday. This seems like time to start a solid, blatantly untrue "heard through the grapevine Groome is pitching today!" rumor.

My son's 5th birthday and crazy work day. Maybe TBA for GCL Sox, but Yorvin Pantoja is next up, unless they go back to Max Watt.

Francisco Soto, Alberto Schmidt, and Ivan Houellemont added to the GCL roster.
Also, Brandon Magee was removed from both the GCL and Lowell rosters. Might have been released.

Pennington is opening eyes with the Lowell Spinners. In six starts in the Low A New York-Penn League, he’s 2-0 with a 1.67 ERA, 26 strikeouts, and 12 walks in 27 innings.
A curveball that he could spin well in high school flashes the potential to get swings and misses. www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2016/07/21/red-sox-gamble-josh-pennington-paying-off/Eh4iWqh19973WvhFor1xCP/story.html

Ryan Hannable @ryanhannable 28s29 seconds ago Andrew Benintendi playing left field appears to be a gradual shift, likely won't be every day, per source. Early work and BP there though.

Stank took a hard ball to ankle in 2nd but finished inning. Dubon is a stud, hard hit double to wall, could have been a triple as Moncada held up at third.

Beni is not slow, just not elite speed to take the CF spot.

Beni is not slow, just not elite speed to take the CF spot. Binghamton pitcher was out of Indy league, throwing 76-78. I think our guy's had to adjust to sub 80 in first go around.

Beni is not slow, just not elite speed to take the CF spot. He'd be at least a league average center fielder. You might not have noticed that JBJ fella. When they move Moncada it won't be because they don't think he'd be able to handle second. It should also be noted that Portland has a monsta, Pawtucket doesn't.

Stank was quick thru 4 scorel7ess, then gave up hard hits in 5th. HR was to of in 3rd year in AA. Perhaps stank can put on some muscle and be a AAA option.

Here's an eyewitness post from yesterday's game by Tomsoxfan at Uponthemonster.com:
Went to watch the Sea Dogs last night against the Mets AA team. Jacob Dahlstrand was pitching for them. Big tall guy. He was getting hit pretty well at times. Hitting 92 at most on the radar. It was 4-0 when we left after six innings.
Moncada and Benintendi did not have their best games. Neither had a hit nor did they hit anything especially hard. Both struck out. Just one of those games.
Mauricio Dubon....I had not seen him before. First at bat he blasted one off the center field wall near the 400 foot sign for a triple. Next time up he hit another one 400 feet that the outfielder raced back and caught on the run one step short of the wall before hitting it. He looks like a 16 year old...rather like Mookie did 2 years ago. But his play at shortstop looked good. His arm looked strong. And his swing is very well put together and he generates surprising power for such a slender, young kid.

last night in Portland was not "just one of those games". They were facing a pitcher with MLB experience (2yr as RP) with a 90 FB, who got both Moncada and Beni to chase outside and on offspeed. Some of the hits in tonights game were against an Indy League pitcher with 76-78 FB, and against a relief pitch who had to go 3 IP because the starter got knocked out early. It would be foolish to call up either Moncada or Beni in Sep because they will spend next year. learning to hit experienced pitchers in AAA. It looks like Binghamton will have a good pitcher tomorrow night so we will see.
