Well game 2 looks real promising. Big mismatch. Don't know about game 3, however.

Found this surprising: Justin Verlander is currently sporting the second-highest K% of his career (2009). Back in 2009, he was in his fireballer stage, averaging 95.6 MPH on his fastball. He's at 93.2 MPH in 2016, after 93.1 and 93.2 in 2014-2015. He's not what he once was, but he's still a reliable horse on the mound, pitching a lot of effective innings.

Don't let Dombrowski know or he'll be in a Boston uni on Monday.

Well game 2 looks real promising. Bug mismatch. Don't know about game 3, however. Apparently the knuckleball doesn't do very well in the rain. Is it helped by bug infestations?

Be good to see Iggy again. That loss doesn't bother me now that Xander has become superman. Still like watching him play though.

Shaw has a .310 ISO and .219 BABIP this month. Would really like to see him cut Ks down to around 21-22%.

Does Pomerantz always live this high in the zone?

Oh my God, I completely forgot that Mike Aviles even existed. He's very much in the category of brief Red Sox players of the past few years that weren't very cool, like Mark Kotsay, and not like the true great awesome and funny players, like The Mayor or Alex Cora.

Does anyone know if Dustin Pedroia and Mookie Betts are still using the axe handle style bats? I saw them early in the year but after a month it didn't look like they still were. In the first inning it looked like Mookie still is just a different version. More of a normal knob with some the flattened sides of the handle. Its so hard to see that because the broadcast rarely shows the bat without them gripping it.

Does Pomerantz always live this high in the zone? I went back and watched his final start for the Padres after we made the trade, he does throw the elevated fastball a lot, and it was very effective against the Dodgers in that start.

What is the over/under on how many more times OB is going to bring up Sale tonight?
Not like there is a Red Sox game to call...
I guess NESN wants to turn the broadcasts into glorified talk radio without the callers.

Ok, 6 strong by my man Drew, that HR was less than ideal but not too bad at all. Hopefully the bats wake up.

Pomeranz is definitely a fastball up, curveball down kind of pitcher. He throws enough offspeed stuff down to still put up good ground ball rates, but one of the reason he strikes so many guys out is that he throws a good amount of high heat.

As long as we can come back, and even if we don't, I love that it was Iggy who hit that. I'm fine with the Pomeranz trade, but i will always root for Espinoza. Just for the record, I have no problem with the negativity, I only regret the lack of humor around here. I appreciate the positive posts here, especially when I'm not expecting it. What gets my goat is that you will never see the negative posters say something positive. Even when we win the game the best you will see Temple post is "I''m glad (whoever on the other team) is the worst player in baseball" (meaning we would have lost if the other team had any competent player). So many bosses.

I think Pomeranz has the right to go into the locker room and cut up that 1975 jersey he wore last week.

Verlander was literally trying to give us the lead by feeding Shaw meatballs.
Shaw was having none of it.
Is it Moncada time yet?
