Benny with a bomb in the first. Now 3-for-3 with 2 HR, 2B. Live shot of Dombrowski: JetBlue has a 9 am direct flight from Boston to Seattle which would get Benintendi there a little after 12 pm PST tomorrow. Get him on that flight and in a Red Sox uniform tomorrow night, Dombroski. Only half-kidding.

There's no way that Benintendi couldn't be a better LF option than Holt/Brentz right now. There's no way.

Benintendi (150 games and 565 ABs) has about the same number of minor league games and ABs as Schwarber (147 games and 519 ABs) had when the Cubs called him in 2015. It is time to shake things up and bring him up to the Red Sox as he will be significant improvement both offensively and defensively in LF.

I absolutely love that Moncada, Benintendi, and Dubon have not skipped a beat since their promotions to Portland.
And humanbeingbean - agreed on Benintendi. Would love to see him in a Red Sox uniform soon.

It's one thing to have a situation in which your current MLB player isn't doing poorly enough to warrant him losing his job (like the Danny Espinosa/Trea Turner situation in Washington), but it's another entirely to have your current player/platoon not doing anything at all. Even if Benintendi comes up and plays decently (not too well or great or anything), that's still probably better than what Holt and Brentz are doing.

Have to bring Benny up. I anticipate disappointing hitting; it is a big, fast jump. But just having a decent fielder, some speed, energy... leftfield has been brutal all year.
Edit: and I mean disappointing initially, not longterm. I don't expect miracles.

Is there much left for Benintendi to prove in the minors? He could go to Pawtucket, but is it really necessary?

Is there much left for Benintendi to prove in the minors? He could go to Pawtucket, but is it really necessary? Let's not get too excited over one game here, even if it was spectacular. Benny has been just OK since he got to Portland -- hasn't set the world on fire. At the very, very, very least, let's give him some time to see if he can build on today's breakout game and get on a good hot streak before bringing him to the majors. And while we're at it, give him a few more games in LF if the organization is seriously considering bringing him up at some point.

It was not just one game though. after skidding a bit at the beginning, AB has hit for a while. Is he "setting the world on fire?" No, but he has handled himself well.

Since he futures game, I thought benintendi had kind of hit the wall and was scuffling a bit.
I do think he needs to go to Pawtucket for the next month though.

After struggling in his first 47 AB's in May (.513 OPS), he has OPS's .886 (105 AB's) in June and 1.042 (85 AB's) in July (and I don't think that included today's 4-5 work). He's been very good for 2 months, far more than just ok.
