Want to know who they gave up, obviously, but that's a sensible add. He's an upgrade from Layne. Abad has been trending down against RHB the last couple years but is strong against lefties. He's also under contract for 2017.

Pat light. Not a bad trade.

I have seen some reports that the deal is for Light. Not Abad trade (sorry, someone was going to do it).

Really good move here. Abad has been fantastic against lefties this year, hard to hate this deal.

I'll take that. Hope he turns it around (like I hope for all Sox draft picks), but I think Light wasn't going to play a big role here.

Eh I don't hate it. Abad has been okay this year but seems like this was a little too much. Light was doing well in Pawtucket.

Nice trade. Light has upside, but I'm relatively pessimistic that he ever improves his control (let alone his command) to be more than a fringy reliever in MLB.

They should trade Layne now. I'm not sure that improving from Layne to Abad is going to be anything that anyone notices.

Abad over Layne any day. Too bad Light didn't work out for us, but not a big loss. Fine with this trade.

We're talking about a sample size of 15 innings for each facing LHB.

I have seen some reports that the deal is for Light. Not Abad trade (sorry, someone was going to do it). You also could have said that what we gave up was a relatively "light" package.

Not that many Leftys i worry about getting out late in a game. We still have the most dangerous Lefty in the game in Ortiz. Donaldson, Bautista, Encarnacion, Machado, and Trumbo seem to be the biggest problem for the Red Sox this season.

I'm ok with the trade. Abad is having a good year. I would have hoped that the Sox could have traded a future LOOGY for a current one, as I would have preferred not to deal Light for a LOOGY.
I was never really that high on Light. I don't think he'll ever be much more than Chris Carpenter, the hard throwing righty the Sox got from the Cubs for Theo who never amounted to anything. I think his control will never allow him to be more than a fringy reliever.

Someone has to give us a C-/C prospect for Layne now right? Or he'll be lost through waivers. I'd also probably trade one of Kelly or Buchholz, because there is not room on the roster for both of them, even with Hembree in AAA. Seems a bit pointless to hoard excess pitching if they have any value.

They should be Layne today if they can. Maybe we'll get a nice little lottery pick for him. It'll free up a 40 man spot, which won't hurt.

Excellent move. Now STOP. No more moves unless you can get something for Layne (which I doubt). A lefty in the pen, IMO, was the only totally necessary move.

Hard to be bothered by the trade when Light got absolutely murdered when called up. True it was only a couple of innings but an ERA over 20 isn't encouraging no matter what.
