I wonder if Farrell will use him out of the bullpen.
All kidding aside, excited to see what he can do.

If he doesn't hit he will at least give better defense than Holt/Brentz Does this mean Swihart is going to be out quite a bit longer?

The announcers on WEEI also just said that the Sox will announce Benintendi's promotion after the game.

He better not get stuck on the bench. You don't take away him playing everyday in the minors to have him sit in the majors. He needs to be the everyday left fielder from day 1, put Holt back to being a utility guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Farrell f*** this up.

You're lucky I even bothered to read this without the title being in all caps
Let's see what he's got.

There is almost no way that they had him skip AAA and called him right up to the majors to sit on the bench. Come on now

I find this extremely surprising but DD is clearly in win now. Dam the torpedos. Full steam ahead...etc.
Personally, I wish we could give him more time in the minors but maybe they want to acclimate him to mlb in time for the playoffs, when they think he might make a difference this year. Maybe they are right. They have made lots of other solid moves to put us strongly in the playoff mix. This team really should make the playoffs. If we are truly going to optimize our chances this year maybe we should be bringing him up.
But he had almost no time in LF so far correct? What if we do have an injury in the OF? For example if we lose Betts. That could make a huge difference on this team. Maybe resting Betts for a while gets him healthy for the playoffs.
I don't actually like this but I've loved all of DD's other deals so far. It must be something I'm not seeing.

I don't actually like this but I've loved all of DD's other deals so far. It must be something I'm not seeing. Funny, I loved his small moves (Ziegler and Hill especially), but this is my favorite. I don't expect Benintendi to set the world on fire, but I think his defense, and the ability to use Holt as a true superutility, will make a big difference. I have zero concern regarding the CF-LF switch. I always prefer internal fixes--trusting the guys you have--over trying to make a splash. Part of why I disliked the Pomeranz acquisition so much...Rodriguez has looked sharp and Pomeranz is doing his best bad-Clay impression. With good-Clay peeking around the corner, I'd've preferred DD stand pat. Regardless, this is a better overall move than any LF pickup they could've made, especially if Young comes back and gets up to speed quickly. I have a feeling that Benintendi may struggle for 100 AB or so, but come the end of September, I think he should be a real contributor.

This reminds me of the Sox calling up Ellsbury in 2007 when he hit better for the Sox, .353 and with one more HR than he had in four times as many at bats in AA and AAA.
Let's hope the Sox end the season as they did in 2007.

BRENTZ LIVES!!
“@ianmbrowne: Michael Martinez just headed to Farrell ‘s office, so he will go to make room for Benintendi.”

What an incompetent manager that guy is!

I love it. They believe if you kick *** in AA you can go up to the big leagues. I bet Moncada is about a month away. Solid moves.thank you for keeping these kids.
