Looking ahead with 8 games in the GCL left (one start), what is the next plan for Groome? Can they send him to the Athlete Performance Academy in AZ? Does he just go home until Feb? Ft Myers instructs?

I probably have to examine the data more closely before confirming, but I think that Groome's outing may have been the most dominant 30-pitch stretch in the history of professional baseball. Holy crap that is funny. It may have been one of the more over-anticipated 30-pitch outings in the history of professional baseball.

Looks like Bill Parmeter made it to the GCL game and took a few photos. (I hope that link works--they're the last shots in a HUGE gallery right now and scrolling takes forever.)

Dubon just made a pretty horrible throwing E. Nice backhand in the hole (thought Moncada could've dove for it and possibly made a play), quick release but literally threw it into the seats not even close

Ft Myers instructs? Based on what they've said, we were guessing it's one more GCL start, then probably up to Lowell for a (playoff) start a la Allen and Lakins last year. Worth noting, though, that the GCL Sox are only 1 game out of first, so they could easily make the playoffs and he could pitch down there.

Impressive showing for Romanski defensively so far. Picked off a runner at first, threw out would-be-base stealer at second by a lot, and I have a side view but still really like how he's receiving the ball. Very quiet hands & good presentation from what I can see

Dubai can do no wrong. The sun must have put out a solar flare and the extra gravitation pulled the ball off line. OK, so the sun's down. The moon must have put out a lunar flare. And speaking of being able to do no wrong, Malbec 2-2 with another HR. Keep a careful eye on his dingers.

Moncada has looked great defensively. Nice play ranging into foul ground on pop up, charged a swinging bunt & fielded with glove with a lightning quick release & strong throw but the runner barely beat it, nothing more he could've done. Just ended an inning with a backhand play behind the bag at third and a strong throw for an out. Of course the only video I got on defense of him was a more routine play.

He's such a quality teammate.

The Great Dalbino at it again. 3-3 and a double away from the cycle.

Brandon Workman much better tonight. Three innings, one run allowed - on a home run by Ryan Lavarnway.

And just as an aside, I struggle to see why Groome is ahead of Kopech on the prospect list, unless Kopech is being assessed behavioral penalty points.

Maybe some people have different opinions than the ones you hold dear? Or maybe they're seeing Kopech as a guy who - including his recent stretch of dominance - is rocking a 4.5bb/9. Meanwhile Groome has the talent to have gone #1 overall. Say Groome HAD gone #1 overall, would you still be asking why he's ranked ahead of Kopech?

I think you could pretty much make a case for any order of Devers, Groome and Kopech. There's not a whole lot of separation there.

Meanwhile Groome has the talent to have gone #1 overall. Say Groome HAD gone #1 overall, would you still be asking why he's ranked ahead of Kopech?Yes, I think I would. I tend to rank demonstrated performance ahead of hype and potential. I agree the BB rate is a little high for Kopech, but that stands out as the ONE thing that is an issue performance-wise right now, and the explosiveness of his pitching and all the strikeouts tend to offset that. We can cite previous pitchers who have overcome this kind of control issue, especially early in their careers, through overpowering stuff, and while it's way too early to say that Kopech can follow in those footsteps, the potential is there -- and we've seen it. And I will say that I tend to discount performances of prospects just after they get drafted, in the first month or two of their minor league exposure, because so many factors can confound performance in that SSS that it in many cases is virtually meaningless. Talk to me next year at this time about Groome and Kopech. It's quite possible that my viewpoint will be entirely different.

I think you could pretty much make a case for any order of Devers, Groome and Kopech. There's not a whole lot of separation there. The thing about ranking Groome is that you have to put him somewhere on that list even though it's much more of a guess than everyone else just because he's played so much less than everyone else. It's not really worth debating his ranking until he's got a real professional track record behind him.
