It's pretty clear to me that NESN is to blame more than anyone else. I really liked O'Brien on the radio. I hate him on tv. I know it's a little different calling the PBP on tv, but not that different. Or I guess it could also be Castiglione that was raising him up. Completely agree with this. I had no problems with Orsillo and like Remy, but I would pay money to hear Eckersley every game.

I have to disagree. It isn't the announcer's job to educate the audience about baseball. Personality is key, and O'Brien has very little of it. Orsillo had a warm, genuine, light tone mixed with authentic enthusiasm for the team. O'Brien is so mechanical. My dream booth would definitely be Orsillo and Eck. There is very little value to me with the bad jokes, the relationship he had with Remy or the ridiculous stuff like the Wally Dance. He was constantly off topic. I'm not sure why some seem to like him but NESN made a great move removing him in my book.

O'Brien is better on ESPN than he is on NESN, so I feel like a lot of the problem is an intentional dumbing down of the broadcast on the production end. EDIT: Meaning he's being told to call the game like it's for someone who treats actual analysis like my 2-year old treats spinach. I liked O'Brien on ESPN but no so much on NESN. I think because of the limited amount of games on ESPN and on NESN, I listen to him every game. I find myself switching over to the opposing team's broadcast at times because of all of the infomercial interviews NESN has in the booth during the home games. Eckersley is fantastic - some humor and no filter.

OB seems like a nice guy and is trying, but he talks incessantly as if he is on radio and we can't see the game. We can see it. He gets info wrong constantly (names, pitch count, type of pitch) and analyzes and second guesses constantly, also wrongly; and is an active jinxer. Moments of silence and moments without pedantry are golden on televised baseball. Orsillo and Remy and Eck wisely offer them, while OB and Lyons offer a steady, mind numbing, mechanical drone. I will miss Vin Scully out here, and enjoyed Gowdy and Martin before moving west. Neither Orsillo nor OB are them, but Orsillo is cut from similar cloth as them. NESN is paying big $$$ for bad NYC "expert"advice in many areas. Too bad.

Terrible night for baseball. 1 meaningless AL game. Four games overall!!!!! Weird timing too, let's give almost every team the night off, then give them up to 15 more players?
