Groome appears scheduled to pitch Friday night in Norwich vs Connecticut Tigers. Might be a couple of years before he pitches in New England again, unless Lowell goes deeper into playoffs.

The NY-Penn League playoffs start Wednesday 9/7, right? If Lowell stays #3 seed they'll be at home for Game 1. If they move up in the standings they'll be at home for 2 and 3 (if necessary). By going on Friday he's lined up well to get the start in a home game either way.

Is Chris Marrero just org depth? He's had a pretty good year & there is hardly ever talk about him coming up at any time. 287/.344/.501 is not terrible. 23 hr's. I guess it's his age (28) or limited defensively (1B COF), but seems like he could be a Daniel Nava type.

He's been consistently productive the whole season. He would have to be added to the 40 man, but could help the club after Sept. 1st. He could push Shaw and earn himself a contract.

As a milb free agent, expect him to play elsewhere next year.

Brentz has options and was already on the 40. Marrero does not have options - once he comes up, you lose him if you need to remove him.

I really would have liked to see him in the majors over Brentz. train of random thoughts .... Workman appears to have exhausted his 30 day rehab today or tomorrow .... so he has to come off the DL and get optioned if he wants to pitch in Portland ... maybe ... with the roster at 39, that leaves one spot for Workman or Castillo or LeMarre or ChrisM .... Castillo LeMarre ChrisM all seem to be better RH options than Brentz. It is possible Brentz is in his final days as a Sox if he goes on waivers. He put up another poor month of stats in August.

Aren't we going to lose Marrero once Pawtucket's season is over anyway (Sept 5th)? As DFA said above, & I have to assume it's correct, he will be a MiLB FA after this year.

Or they just won't activate him. Portland's season ends on Sunday anyway, and it's not clear that he's ready for the majors. He's probably worth more on the 60-day DL at this point.

Ockimey with his 18th HR. 1-3 HR BB K Ockimey really slowed down drastically as the season went on, which could be due to his first full professional season, but it's fun to think of Ock and Dalbec batting 3 - 4 in a lineup next year in Salem.
