Now that's some news. As in they are the team with the highest waiver priority to claim him? Or as in they are one of 20 teams to claim him?

“@antoniopuesan: Yasiel Puig claimed by Red Sox (Not officially confirmed)” You have the news covered. If true, I'm guessing nothing comes of it but it does block the Jays from having a shot at him.

From MLB Trade Rumors:
9:40pm: USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (via Twitter) that the White Sox attempted to claim Puig, but he did not make it to them on waivers. That would indicate that either a National League team or one of the few American League teams with a worse record than the ChiSox won the claim. Factoring in previous reports that the Marlins and Braves didn’t make the claim, the team that claimed Puig is one of the Angels, Athletics, Rays, Twins, Cubs, Nationals, Dodgers, Giants, Cardinals, Pirates, Mets, Rockies, Phillies, Brewers, Reds, Padres or D-backs. While that’s clearly an enormous slate of teams, Nightengale’s report does at least eliminate roughly a third of the teams in baseball as a possibility.

It's just semantic, but I thought from the beginning that all this means is that the Red Sox put in a claim for Puig, not that they were the highest-priority team that did so.

In fairness, though, semantics are everything in this case. Manipulate the semantics, go viral. I doubt the average sports fan has your sanguine, logical perspective.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the Rays claimed him, traded for him, then he'll go on for a .900 OPS against the Sox. lol

I don't see why they would trade him now instead of waiting till the offseason. Much more than 1 team would be in the bidding and it's not they don't have the payroll to carry him for an extra month.

There's no downside to trying to do so, and maybe he gets claimed by a team in playoff contention who is willing to pay a premium to have him around for September/October 2016.

Its too bad that the Sox didn't get him. He can show Moncada how to play lackadaisically.

You can say that about anyone though, and it still doesn't change anything of what I said.

...and for exactly that reason, almost every player in the league gets put through revocable waivers in August. This is no different.
