Will the Red Sox be in the Playoffs?

I keep going back and forth between they will lose the Wild Card Play In Game and they will blow making the playoffs altogether.
Unfortunately I expect a lot of close games, the kind the Sox lose over and over and over again. I also think they'll struggle against Toronto, Baltimore and New York and they have a bunch of games left against them. I don't think Detroit and Baltimore will be world beaters, but I can see a scenario where the Sox blow a lead in the last game of the year (either an 8th inning meltdown, or Kimbrel walks in the winning run, or a stupid error does them in) to prevent them from making the playoff game.
I could also see a scenario where the Sox blow 1st place on the last day of the season and finish in 2nd and host the Wild Card game and find a way to blow the game against the Orioles. I can see them losing an 8th inning lead, trailing by 1, load the bases with no outs in the last of the 9th and fail to score.
That's how the year has felt. If they knock that BS off, this team is quite capable of winning the division and even knocking off Cleveland and having a legit shot at beating the winner of Texas and the Wild Card survivor. I just don't have a lot of faith in that at this point.

Hoping for the division, but thinking it will be a wild card spot. It is the gap between their talent, and their performance.
Easily summed up - their record - 76-61. Pythagorean record - 81-56.
They are not winning the games that they should be winning.

At the time this poll went up, BP had our odds at 85% and FG had them at 90%. That tells you something about the 75% yes votes here.
Division odds were 49% and 57%, compared to 43% yes votes here.

23 games to play all in the division. The sp looks the best it has all season. The hitting is coming back around and the bullpen looks better. I would say it is very encouraging that they win the div. It will be a fun 3 weeks or so.

I would say it is very encouraging that they win the div. It will be a fun 3 weeks or so. As discouraging as their many missteps all season have been (as evidenced by a 7-game deficit to their run diff-predicted record), I agree with you. Their longest losing streak is 4 games. They've been in the thick of it all year. The starting pitching has been much better of late, and Koji and Kelly both appear to be adding some valuable *quality* depth to the bullpen. Ziegler's been a great pickup, too. They're good away from home, and Shaw looks like he might be getting hot, while Hanley has been. If they're really going to fire on all cylinders, this is the perfect time for it. All in-division games, too.

I just hope for the Sox sake that they win the division. I keep saying this, but I don't want to see the damage Farrell can do in a one game wildcard play-off.
This is my worst fear this season. The Sox need to win the division imo.
