Maybe Taz's splitter is back? Trying to look for silver lining here.

As soon as the bullpen straightens out the rotation craps the bed and the offense does its all or nothing at all act.
At least Tampa still leads Baltimore 7-4 in the 6th.
If things hold up and Toronto wins the Sox will lead Baltimore by 1 game, Toronto by 2 games, and the MFYs by 3 games.
If Toronto loses, the Yankees would actually tie them for 3rd place, just 3 games out.

I'm only concerned about one team right now: Boston Red Sox. And, if they take care of their own business, then that's all wee need to concern ourselves with. We don't need to worry about any other teams..................................YET!

Is it too early to be concerned that the Sox could lose at least three out of four against NY at Fenway? Yes, yes it is. Y'all are some masters of panic up in here.

We've been unlucky running in some hot pitchers.

We are half way through September - so far this month, Xander and Mookie are a combined .202. That's just not gonna do it. Tired? Pressing?

Maybe, but I don't have a ton of faith in Buchholz. Do you? I knew the Sox offense wouldn't hit much today because the next time they knock around Tanaka will be the first time they've done that. He pitches very well against the Sox just as E-Rod has pitched well against NY until tonight. Honestly, how concerned are you with the Sox given what you've been watching?

I'd say a bit of pressing (the last two games against the O's a lot of swings looked like they were trying to hit one out instead of hitting a solid line drive), but I'd mainly say they're tired. JBJ must be kind of tired, too. It seems those guys don't get too much rest. I haven't seen a real good article on the difference between Bogaerts now versus the Bogaerts of June. If I did maybe it would shed more light on it rather than he's simply tired. It may be that's all it really is.

40 years old - Papi with a laser beam to center field. We are so lucky to be able to watch this magnificent baseball player's career here. I've enjoyed every second of it.

Congrats to Ortiz. I believe that gives him sole possession of 17th place all-time. And the Mick is the last guy he'll pass. Don't see him reaching Mike Schmidt's 548.
But with two more homers he'll pass Dave Kingman to set a record of most homers in his final season. In Kingman's case it was a case of other teams being tired of watching him hit .200 so he can hit his 35 dingers.

Big opportunity here - Baltimore loses. Amazing, gutty, gritty comeback time to serve notice!
OK, that's the best I've got.

Aaron Hill vs a lefty is hardly better than JBJ vs a lefty. In fact, I think he's worse.

I think they're the favorites for the division and almost certainly going to make the playoffs. I think the Red Sox are favorites in tomorrow's game. That's what my rational side thinks, too. It also thinks any team with Price and Porcello is unlikely to totally collapse. On the other hand, my less rational side can't help thinking that this team sure looks like a team on the verge of a collapse. It has a large number of key players who have never experienced a pennant race, is dealing with the outsized expectations of an owner, press corps and fan base that feels deprived because it hasn't won anything in three whole years, has shown signs it is struggling with the pressure as evidenced by an inability to hit with the bases loaded or after the seventh inning of close games, has lost seven straight one run games and has just been shut down back to back nights, albeit by very good pitchers. Then my rationale side reminds me that since the all star break this team leads the league in both runs scored and fewest runs allowed. To which my irrational side responds that despite that they're still barely over .500 during that time. And I wonder if I should just let the two of them fill a whole thread by themselves.

why Hill over Young in that spot?

Ok - I'm more of a reader than a poster on here and I rarely post in the Gameday threads but ... What exactly is Farrell doing here? Hill over JBJ? I don't care about R/L in that spot. Hill surprising us all and putting one in the Monster seats does nothing for you there. You let your everyday CF hit, imo. That probably got me far more annoyed than it should have but this guy leaves me scratching my head far too often.
