I've said this before, but Porcello is a joy to watch when he's on. Pumping strikes in, working fast ... he's got a Maddux line in today's game so far. Yes, but he has to be relieved in the 8th. Two more batters and then the lineup comes around the fourth time. Can't have him going through another time. Sorry fogey....gotta disagree with you here. Have someone warming, but give him a chance to finish. Sets a tone...our guys is the sh*t

CG with less than 90 pitches. Wow.

It's amazing that the Red Sox could, unlikely as it is, have both the MVP and the Cy Young this year. What a game by Porcello.

That win ensures we will be in 1st regardless of what happens the rest of this series.
I like that.

But seriously, nice Maddox.
ADD: not actually a Maddox- he gave up runs. Still impressive.

Mediocre pitchers have trouble 3rd tone around the lineup. Porcello is a lawnmower going through grass.

You know who is 1-2 in the league for IPs this year?
That would be Price and Porcello.

Just a great game from Porcello ... he was kind of unlucky to even give up the 2 runs. Bullpen's fully rested, gave everyone a nice, easy game in the middle of this stretch run ... love it.

Man, it's so early in the night, I'm not sure what to do with myself with the game over before 10. Especially coming off a Yankee series, Porcello bowled through this game real quick. Feels weird.

But just to give an idea of how much of a knife edge this team is on, think of how much different the attitude would have been here had the Sox lost this game, with Buchholz and ERod slated to start the next two games. Top-flight pitchers don't just protect against what went before, by stopping losing streaks. They protect against the potential of what might come afterward.

If I was a voter, I would vote Trout and Kluber.
Thank goodness I'm not a voter

If I was a voter, I'd give the Cy to Porcello, the MVP to Mookie, Rookie of the Year to Benintendi, comeback player of the Year to Leon, and Manager of the Year to Farrell...well maybe not the last one.

If I was a voter, I would vote Trout and Kluber. So would I. But the best part is not that Mookie and Porcello should win, but that they could win. Like they elevated themselves to a standard where the best hitter and the best pitcher in the league are better than they are, but not by an insane amount. Kluber has been better than Porcello, sure, but it's not a gigantic gulf, it's very very close. Same goes for Mookie. It's been awesome.

Agreed about Porcello, but I don't know about Mookie being very very close to Trout. Trout is just on another planet all by himself. If they give the MVP to earthlings then Mookie deserves it.

Again..to all the Trout homers out there....the MVP is not the best player award....it's the Most Valuable Player, and that is Mookie. Just ask the Orioles, whom he has almost singlehandedly kept out of first place.

Oh, absolutely, Trout is a very unique kind of monster. But Mookie positioned himself nicely as the second best player in baseball, which isn't a bad position to be at all.

I know the answer, but am going to ask the question anyhow. Why not Ortiz for MVP? Provides 0 value in the field, so it's hard to keep up with other players' value to their team. He's been great, but not the best.
