And people asking for Sandy f*cking Leon of all people to be pinch hit for this close to the post-season: LMAO. He's the starting catcher for the run, let him struggle now and try to figure it out while the games still don't really matter. True (he's the starter), but right now he can't hit you or me>LOL. I'm sure someone else could've caught the last 3 innings, in tonight's situation. Not sure anyone should want to overmanage this team at this point. Just throw out the bats and balls and let em play. They are takin' care of business.

Isn't this a spot you should run for Papi?

SFL needs some rest. The quicker they clinch; the sooner the regulars can get some rest. It will be also a good time to figure out who should be the backup catcher. Resting guys is awesome, but pinch hitting for them in a somewhat meaningless game against the Rays is not my favorite idea. I know guys are pros and they're not going to BRAKE or anything, but I like the manager trusting his guy there.

We'll take that dumb, bad base running.

A gift from the Rays' base running.

Until they do these games are not meaningless. I take nothing for granted.

Difficult outing for Uehara, 17 pitches, way more than normal

Difficult outing for Uehara, 17 pitches, way more than normal Given the state of our bullpen about a month ago, I'l take that as a "difficult outing" in the 8th any day.

Agree with what has been said earlier. I don't like Porcello being in the game for 116 pitches. This is not a must-win game. Keeping him fresh for the postseason is infinitely more important than winning this game, as much as I'd like this winning streak to continue.

THAT took longer than expected, at least we didn't have to deal with Longoria coming up as the tying run.

10=3. Speaking for myself, I would leave the second guessing to when we are actually losing games because of incorrect decisions.
Start printing the ALDS tickets.

For a minute there, I thought Longoria would get a chance to tie this thing up.

I don't even think the relative importance of the game factors into it. He hadn't pitched that well and there were plenty of bullpen options available. It wasn't the best thing for the game or for Porcello. And there was really no reason it was needed.

We are about to pass Cleveland if the White Sox can hold on.

Perhaps JF gave a bit of excessive rope, w/ probability high that his next regular season start projected to be short one, if at all?

These are major league hitters he has to face and he has set a high bar, but I wouldn't say he didn't pitch well.

The Sox have clinched a playoff spot. They have now won 91 games. The only other teams that could win 91, besides Cleveland and Texas, are Detroit, Baltimore and Toronto. But both Toronto and Baltimore can't win 91 because they play each other. Detroit and Baltimore both have to win out to reach 91, which could happen. But if Baltimore wins out, Toronto loses at least 3 (to Baltimore) and Toronto can win 90 at most. So if Baltimore wins out, the Sox are guaranteed to have one of the 5 best records in the league and thus a wild card spot. But if Toronto beats Baltimore at least once, the Sox are also guaranteed to have one of the 5 best records in the league and a wild card spot.

He had given up 3 runs and gone over 100 pitches in 6 innings, needing great defensive plays to save him from more runs. Thats not an "he's pitching so well I've got to throw caution to the wind and try to squeeze another inning out of him" performance.
