Sally: (4. Anderson Espinoza) 9. Luis Alexander Basabe (18. Luis Alejandro Basabe) www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2016-south-atlantic-league-top-20-prospects/#vXamBoOFeIfklxIz.97Thought this was interesting on Ax.: Note that with 14 teams in the league (and a strong season this year in the league to boot), it's not awful that Basabe was the only guy to make the list who's still around. It does speak somewhat to the gap between him and the Ockimey/Chavis/Raudes/Matheny/Washington group, though.

It's worth noting that the league lists are basically drawn from managers. In the case of LAJ vs Ockimey, consider that they would have seen Ockimey's second-half decline, but didn't see Alejandro fall off following the trade. He hit .217/.339/.323 for Kane County in 45 games. You wonder if he makes the list if he does that in Greenville, although Ockimey's collapse over the second half was more sustained and more concerning.

Why more concerning, Chris?
It would be nice to have a scouting report from 1st half vs. 2nd half. Was he getting pitched different (i.e. had the league figured him out), was there a mechanical difference, or was he perhaps fatigued.

Print issue has the rest of it. Moncada and Benintendi 1-2 in the EL, which they ranked as 5 stars strong. Also 1-2 in the CAR, with Devers 6, Kopech 8, and Dubon 14 (although it's only an 8-team league, they rated it 4 stars). The Devers writeup is 45% devoted to raves about his defense.

But he'd be a Cy Young contender in the majors!

That's a decent top 10 in the Eastern League. Sweet Jesus yes. Six of the 10 best prospects in baseball. Arguably six of the top seven, and only because Dansby Swanson fell one AB short of graduating.
