Let's just make this a front office thread. Sanders news really isn't that huge a deal, imo. Also,

Arizona DiamondbacksVerified account @dbacks The #Dbacks have named Mike Hazen their Executive Vice President & General Manager
----
This stinks. Congrats to Mike, though. Pretty concerned about this loss -- felt like he was a critical cog to balance Dombrowski.

Now watch Dombrowski trading the rest of the elite prospect talent remaining for few relievers!

Willing to wager that Lovullo is going with him.

Well, if the DBacks/Hazen think they're three or more years away and this is the time to trade Goldschidmt to maximize return value there's at least one team's farm that Hazen knows inside and out.

“@bnightengale: Frank Wren now becomes leading candidate to be promoted and become #Redsox GM” Dear Lord, no. I cried at the thought of this when he was in the running last season. Felt like a sure-thing, and they thankfully went with Hazen. FWIW, Nightengale was the one last year saying Wren was the leading candidate.

Hot take: If Lovullo goes to ARI, I think it makes it more, not less, likely that Farrell is replaced with a Dombro/Wren guy during this offseason.

If we lose Lovullo and Hazen, and Wren is our GM next year, we would probably have one of the worst GM and coaching staff combos I've ever seen.
A playoff caliber team no matter what, but good god that would be ugly.

This is the worst news I've heard from this organization since Bobby Valentine was hired. Actually, this is way worse. Bobby V. only set the Sox back for a year. Frank Wren and DD will cripple the farm system for the next 10 years.

“@bnightengale: Frank Wren now becomes leading candidate to be promoted and become #Redsox GM” Dear Lord, no. Honestly does it really matter? I am sure his role this past year, or lack there of, for Hazen was a big motivation in any move. Even if a GM is announced it is and will be Dombrowski's show. I am sure Hazen wasn't fully on board nor did he 'check' Dombrowski when the Kimbrel move was made.

If Wren is hired then you can pretty much expect the Red Sox farm system to be cleaned out while DD and Wren trade guys like Devers, Kopech, etc for guys like Davis, Teheran, etc.

The Red Sox GM title is a name only. Can't be surprised about Hazen taking the job and if Wren is promoted it's not like he's making any of the decisions or moves. This is Dombrowski's team and Hazen leaving is just further confirmation of that.

We will be lucky if we see Kopech and Moncada here.

It is hard to overstate the damage that Dombrowski has done in just a year; go back and look at the thread when his hiring was first announced. All the flackeys who instinctively backed the corporate man were convinced that we were wrong. And you know what - you were right. We all underestimated just how incompetent and how quickly he would steer the ship toward disaster. All the words wasted on Farrell, when the guy with the loaded gun is an atavistic neanderthal
