Every day I like Hanley more and more. He had a reputation as a dog, and that incident in Florida really made him looks like a guy who doesn't care. And while last year didn't help, I took out of last year that this was a guy who wanted to come back to Boston so bad he signed up to play a position he had absolutely no clue and no skill whatsoever to play. He went way out of his comfort zone. He appears to be in his comfort zone now and I think he's been playing the game the right way, with a smile on his face, and a lot of hustle. It's obvious to me the guy cares, and that runs so counter to his bad rap. I used to believe it. I don't anymore.

Checking in for the first time in a while. Guess it isn't the same when I'm not checking in for the "Draft Pick Standings" on a daily basis. The Sandy Leon-led run begins tonight, lets go Sox!

Holt and Beni should be switched. Other than that its about the ideal lineup. Let's jump on them early. Been a while since the offense cooked.

Confessions of Playoff Red Sox fan
I haven't see the light of day since Sunday. I went underground...deep underground with only a candle and a mirror, living in a cave. The only company I kept was the few rats that scurried by, in a hurry, as they knew that I was in no mood for companionship. The voices kept speaking to me, incessantly, as I looked at my battle worn face in the mirror.
They said we would never win a worlds championship. They laughed at me when they took a 3-0 series lead, taunting me with words of contempt. They said the city was second rate and the fan base a horde of gutless losers. As they chanted 1918, I contemplated Machiavellian retribution. As I thought back to that moment, a centipede happened up on my dirty forearm. It was the last moment of that centipede's existence, as I swatted in dead, and put it in my mouth for some much needed protein.
They said we would never repeat as champions. They held up 27 banners and images of their false gods in their monument park. The hunger was eating at me, I was starved. I hadn't showered in 2 days and the stench of bat shit was overwhelming. There were ancient Indians carvings in the walls as I paced around, dripping with sweat...remembering the anxiety, as if it happened just yesterday. The humidity was cascading off the walls, as I licked it up for much needed hydration.
They said we were vagabonds. Cobbled together with no meaning, like a preacher with no church. Some had beards, and some others had dirty torn clothing. They loved Cardinals. Oh...I can't stand the sight of a Cardinal. The wax dripped on my hand while I made silhouette bird shadows that got crushed, on the cave's walls. It was the 3rd day and my bowels churned with recycled bile. The end is near, I told myself, but they won't win.
I ran to the light I hadn't seen for 3 days. The whole time I was running I heard things.."the Kimbrel trade"..."He mismanaged the bullpen"..."AJ Preller"....."They can't score runs"......."bWAR"....."Home field Advantage". I was on my last breath when I finally reach the end of the cave. As I lifted myself up off the ground, I took in all the oxygen my lungs could take and looked around with blurred eyesight.
And I screamed, "YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"

We've waited a long 3 years for another one of these threads. Some fan bases have waited a lot longer... Exciting time of year, though, for sure! The tension of a tight baseball playoff game is like no other sport. It was almost physically painful in that Yankees series in 2004

Anyone watching the Blue Jays game? I think JBJ legit makes that catch on the Tulo triple.

So nice to be ready to watch this game from Cape Cod tonight - we are just beginning a two week vacation visiting family. Nice big TV. Our hosts go to bed early. I can't wait - got the TV - and game - all to myself!
Go Red Sox! Last time I was here during baseball it was 2004 - the miracle wins over the Yankees. Hoping for less drama this series!

I'm with everyone here. I don't agree with Brock in the #2 spot. I'd rather see Benintendi there. Holt/Shaw is kind of a toss up right now, but they both belong down in the order.
Now watch Holt hit a go-ahead double in the 9th.

Just to be clear - pathetic that Holt must bat second, not the quality of this great lineup itself. Yeah I don't get it either. Why must Farrell manage by images? Holt is that scrappy #2 hitter who can bunt and hit behind the runners. C'mon. He's been terrible this year and he's the guy who gets the extra AB and gets to break up the momentum between Pedroia, Betts, and Ortiz. If he wanted to break up the all righties and then all lefties type lineup, why couldn't he have gotten brave and put in a rookie who hasn't been overwhelmed all year? You switch Benintendi with Holt and you got yourself a well set up lineup. I'm cool with Benintendi getting that 5th AB, but Holt? No. He might as well have kept Bogaerts second if he was too skittish about batting Benintendi second.

Well, as I see it, either the Red Sox lineup goes on the attack and they maul the Indians or their lineup doesn't, the games are close and the Sox are treated to a sickening dose of Andrew Miller, who frightens me more than any other player the Indians have.
I feel if the games and series is close Cleveland could very well sneak by, but if the Sox can hammer the Indians starting pitching, the series could go Boston's way really, really quickly.
I would think the latter scenario was more likely to happen if the Sox had opened up at Fenway. And I think Francona, unlike Showalter, will be unafraid to use his best reliever when he needs to.
Guess we'll see how it plays out. Go Sox!!!!
