Just thought there should be a place to comment on the other playoff series, hopefully this thread will converge with the Red Sox playoff thread(s) come World Series time

This Blue Jays team looks like juggernaut, truly intimidating. No small feat to best them for the division

To be fair, they are playing the Rangers—a team with a negative run differential on the season.

Matt Bush looks unhittable in this game. What a strange story with his rookie year coming at age 30 after being drafted 1-1. And previously a despicable human being. I'm not sure if he has gotten his life together or shown any remorse.

Top 10 reasons to hate Fox's baseball coverage. All of these are unique to the network.
1. No pitch/fx strike zone display 2. Advertisements on the screen during the action 3. Harold Reynolds as an announcer 4. Game breaks to show us football results. WTF? 5. Pete Rose as a pre-game commentator 6. Score box is where the DVR progress bar is, so it's impossible to simply fast-forward or rewind to a certain inning 7. Either the defensive position or batter handedness is shown when displaying the batting order, but not both 8. Alex Rodriguez as a pre-game commentator 9. Has failed to give the defensive lineup in the bottom of the first after failing to list defensive position in the opening lineup display 10. Did a live personal-interest interview during action, which proved to be historic (first relief pitcher to hit a post-season HR since 1925)
And I thought I was going to have to repeat #1 several times for comic effect!
On another topic, my original picks were Jays in 3 and Cubs and Red Sox in 4 (never had time to properly look at Was / LA). It amuses me no end that everyone on the air was shocked by the Jays / Rangers result when the Jays were a .584 regular season team in terms of quality and the Rangers a .516. I wish I had a $20 for every time an announcer called the Rangers "the best team in the AL." No, they were the team in the AL with the best record. They were both a hugely clutch team and a hugely lucky one -- the combination being historic -- and neither of those carry over to the post-season at all.

Conor Gillaspie just did to the Cubs what none of our hitters could do I like this Buster Posey era Giants, balls of steel every single one of them.

And then Kris Bryant also does what we couldn't against the Indians

The only NL team I like is the Giants because I like watching them and remembering the Rays could have drafted Buster Posey but drafted Tim Beckham instead.

Went home and passed out watching the Cubs game. The TV woke me up when the Giants walked off and just watching the crowd celebrate made me so jealous.

Yeah I got a similar feeling watching the Giants game lol and it amazed me how resilient they are. They absolutely never gave up and so did the Red Sox, but the Giants showed a bit more enthusiasm doing so. It helps that their line drives were hitting the ground.

SFO and Boston are about the same size, equally beautiful, historic and interesting waterfront cities. I like how they have both found ways to beat up on the metropolises of NYC, LA, Chi, Dallas/Ft.Worth.

I'm not sure I've ever seen two back-to-back better games in one series than the last two Giants / Cubs contests. Your home team may let you down, but the sport almost never does.
In less than 24 hours the Cubs went from a 97.5% chance of winning that series (when they were up 3-0) to a scary goat-curse 50% or so ... and in another inning, it was in the bag.

Bochy overmanaged the crap out of that inning. I know your bullpen is awful but geez pick one guy and go with him, or at least don't remove a good reliever like Law in favor of Javi frigging Lopez.
Being panicky has absolutely never worked in the post-season.

Bochy overmanaged the crap out of that inning. I know your bullpen is awful but geez pick one guy and go with him, or at least don't remove a good reliever like Law in favor of Javi frigging Lopez. Being panicky has absolutely never worked in the post-season. Dave Cameron had a very good article on his failure to use Will Smith in higher leverage after getting him at the deadline, especially his reluctance to let him face RHB. His splits are actually mild. He had three good relievers, in terms of season results: Romo, Law, and Smith. Romo had been up and down, and had thrown 32 pitches the night before and been torched. His season high had been 21. You have to try and stay away from him. Law had thrown 32 pitches and was his usual good self. He had thrown 30 and 31 pitches earlier in the season, so he's maybe available for a batter, but in both cases he had had the next day off; the most he'd ever thrown the day before an outing was 23. Smith had thrown just 9 pitches and had been good. You probably just bring in Smith to close it. That's a very, very likely win. Maybe you bring in Law to face Bryant, and then go to Smith to face everyone else, but I don't see the point of risking that. Now, if you do go the Law/Bryant route, you might be tempted to use Lopez, who is a quality LOOGY and had given Rizzo fits, and then Romo, because Zobrist is a bit better from the right side. But is an exhausted Romo versus Zobrist a better matchup than a fresh Smith against him? No. But that's the way Bochy played it. Smith finally comes in and gives up a cheap hit to Contreras, and then gets pulled in favor of Strickland as soon as a RHB comes up. So that's a further mistake.

Whatever happens next between LA and the Nats, it's pretty clear it would take a monumental choke job by the Cubs to lose to either team. I like the Dodgers better, but goddamn that bullpen inspire me 0 confidence outside of Jansen.

5 1/2 hours to play a 9 inning game? I know this is the postseason and a lot more is on the line, but that is still crazy...

That was an amazing game. If you like baseball, you certainly didn't mind watching four and a half hours of great, great baseball.
