We continue to lose good people.
Lovullo > Farrell and it's not even close.

Man, considering the personnel before and after jump, the Diamondbacks may have already won the offseason. I like having NL teams to quietly root for because it doesn't interfere with my Red Sox fanaticism 95% of the time. Arizona is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing of those. Can't wait to see what they do over the next couple years.

Maybe we can trade something to the Diamondbacks in a year to release him from his contract so we can hire him to replace Farrell, John.

Good luck to Torey. God help us now that Farrell doesn't have Torey in his ear.....

What if Farrell has been putting too much emphasis on advice from Lovullo in decision making? Lovullo isn't the Red Sox manager for a reason.

What if Farrell has been putting too much emphasis on advice from Lovullo in decision making? Lovullo isn't the Red Sox manager for a reason. Lovullo's brief managing stint suggests differently, both by eyeball test and results. He's a tough loss. I'm curious about Varitek's disposition in the coming days.

Lovullo has been with Farrell since Toronto days. So he obviously learned from John's experience and counsel. I was impressed by the way he conducted himself during John's absence to fight cancer. I'm sure he'll do well under our former GM, Mike Hazen, in Phoenix.
But we still have Torey's kid in the system.

I wish luvullo the best except when he plays us.
This is a long overdue assignment for him.

He definitely deserves it and I wish his luck.
I'd love to have Alex Cora or Varitek take his spot.

Second that Cora nomination. He's destined to be a manager some day, and has, in fact managed teams in the Puerto Rican League. A student of the game he can also help with the Latino players. And, being an outsider, he'd bring a fresh perspective to the roster.

Not sure why everyone loved Salvatore Lovullo so much as a manager candidate. His last 3 seasons of managing, all at the AAA level, 2 with the Indians and one with the Red Sox, were all losers. The guy who replaced him in the Indians farm system, Mike Sarbaugh, had 9 winning seasons in a row at a total of 4 different levels. Torey has been riding John Farrell's coat tails since. J.F. took him to Toronto and brought him back with him to Boston.

The goal of minor league managers isn't to win games.
That may seem trite, but think of it this way. Suppose it's a night where Henry Owens' control isn't behaving itself. In the majors, you'd get him out of there. In the minors, unless it's going to Daniel Bard-level disaster places, you're going to give him his 80 to 100 pitches to work on the things he needs to, even if he's not righting the ship.
Or think of this. If the goal was to win games at Double-A, Wendell Rijo would never have gotten a plate appearance over Ryan Court. They simply weren't close in terms of how good they were at baseball while they were at Portland. But Febles knows his goal is player development and not picking up wins, so Rijo was getting at-bats.

But that doesn't help to develop a culture of winning, which we all know is so important.
