Sale to BOS for Moncada, Kopech, Basabe, Diaz
|
Post by iakovos11 on Dec 6, 2016 13:37:18 GMT -5
If Swihart is part of the deal I'm going to be a bit disappointed. They butchered his value this season, and to have him as the third piece in any deal is pretty rough. I still think he's going to be a very, very good player. EDIT: Nightengale tweeted that he wasn't involved. I am glad for that. Still evaluating how I feel about this deal. Feels risky to me, but needing Moncada to get Sale isn't crazy, and I'd been advocating selling high on Kopech. Looks like we get to keep our Swihart, too: @chriscotillo 22s22 seconds ago Per @ken_Rosenthal and @bnightengale, White Sox getting: Moncada (1), Kopech (5), Basabe (8), Diaz (28) in Red Sox' system. I'm good with this.

If they can trade Erod for a Shelby Miller type of haul, I'll feel a lot better.

Dan Hayes Verified account @csnhayes
Victor Diaz is a RHP who was at Boston's Single-A Greenville. Luis Basabe is a 2B/SS also played at Greenville. Both in Chris Sale deal.

Moncada, Kopech, Basabe, and Diaz is highway robbery for the Red Sox in this bleak of a SP market. Fantastic day of trading for Dombrowski.

I'm fine with this. They've just made next year's team much, much better, and both Moncada and Kopech are relatively high-risk prospects that I personally had a few misgivings about. Agreed. Moncada has sell high written all over him. We don't even know if he can hit a curveball.

Lol Dombrowski. Just awful. Boy, has a farm system ever been dismantled as fast as this? This is unbelievable. Interesting verb tense -- do you really suppose he is finished?

Agree on this being okay in a vacuum, but FOUR Lefties! Please let us rescind the Pomeranz trade now. That would go a LOOONG way to make this okay.

Wonder which of the extra pitchers in the rotation get traded. We have 4 pitchers for two spots: E-Rod, Wright, Pomeranz and Buchholz. Would seem a waste to put any of them in the bullpen as most of their value are as starters.

This just makes me like the Pomeranz trade even less now.

This actually seems like reasonable value. Nice Dave.

Moncada, Kopech, Basabe, and Diaz. Anyone else really like this deal? Or not find it bad at all? Love it Moncada (30% K rate) Kopech (punches teammates A ball) Basabe (Betts -Bradley - AB) Dias (whatever) For Chris Sale (best pitcher in the AL) Sign me up

Haha people are still mixing up the Basabe even thou they play for different teams. I'm totally fine with this trade. Moncada and Kopech might be stars but both have a high risk. Basabe and Diaz are no guarantees to make it to the majors as well

In July, white Sox asked for Betts and Benintendi

I am telling you Kopech sold himself thru Arizona. Moncada in the podcast he is getting hurt a lot. I love my prospects also but I want to throw some positive spin. Sale is a number 1.
We still have Devers, Groome, Swihart, Dalbec, Travis , Johnson.
I would like to see an extension on a kid soon.
It shows how much the Sox are done with Cuba. Lol.

If Giolito/Robles was really on the table then I'm not sure what the White Sox are doing with this one.

Crazy thought after what they did to him last season, but is there any chance they are thinking of moving Swihart (who IIRC was a shortstop in HS) to 3B?

He was the #1 or #1a prospect. He can probably play ok.

Swihart, Devers and Groome stay? OK well, this actually isn't so bad at all then.
Olney was saying they wanted Betts and Benintendi in July, so obviously something's happened behind the scenes (beyond the bad blood between Sale and the Chisox) to bring it down.
Absolutely monster rotation.

Oh sure, stinkin prospects. How many world series did DD win with the tigers again? He sure left the Tigers in great shape, didn't he? No one is saying that but give the guy some credit he never dealt away one guy who turned into something truly great (in a reasonable time frame) and got elite elite players. Those are the guys you deal for. Chris Sale is a HOF level player and performer. Moncada has pretty large bust potential and while Kopech looks great he has his issues too and Groome is still here. As is our incredibly young nucleus. Does Randy Johnson count?

Ken Rosenthal @ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago BREAKING: Sale to #RedSox. Moncada, Kopech and two other prospects to #WhiteSox. jmei edit: Bob Nightengale ✔ @bnightengale The #WhiteSox will also acquire Basabe and V. Diaz from #RedSox Ugh! They still have to pay Sale in a couple of years (along with the OF beasts....Xander is another (Boras) story) and I highly doubt Price opts out after 2018. Don't like the trade but at least we upgraded the starting rotation significantly. I would have preferred putting Pomeranz in the deal instead of Kopech. Hopefully, we can trade Pomeranz back to San Diego for Neo.

Moncada and Kopech hurt, but having Basabe and Diaz be the only other pieces make this much easier to swallow no issues at all.

Time to beg Ortiz to come back for one more year? Gonna have gaping holes at DH and third I'm suggesting a part-time gig at $20 mil, with a team option for full-time gig come playoffs.
